I saw this movie when I was in college and watched it countless times since. I didn't watch it for years, until tonight. I revisited it again and was moved again. I didn't expect this movie to still have such an appeal after so many years. I feel that I have to make up for the film review I owe for more than ten years overnight.
Some people in the short comments said that this is Director Chen's last good-looking film, and I quite agree. In the past few years, Director Chen didn't know what was wrong, and he always couldn't touch the ground. The Legend of the Demon Cat made me quite embarrassed. In my opinion, the best movie of his is Farewell My Concubine, and even the best of the domestic movies. Second, this one is with you.
There's a lot to like about this film.
Wang Zhiwen's play is really good. This is the most tender part of the whole film. A musical talent who is upright, self-willed, arrogant, sloppy and unruly jumped onto the screen. When he appeared, the male lead played the sun shining on Tashkorgan, which was also my favorite tune.
Chen Hong is still acting with one expression, but fortunately, Lily, who is crazy and hot, can still see the most simple kindness in her. The performance is quite satisfactory, but it is really beautiful. Until the end, I told Liu Cheng, would you still knit wool? come, give it to me! Made me fall in love with her completely.
Liu Peiqi's image is too earthy, which is really a big loss. His plays are just as good, but the image of the sharp-mouthed monkey cheeks is not pleasing to the audience, and always gives people a bitter and mean feeling, just like the third master in the mansion. In the first half of the movie, I basically didn't have a good impression of him, and I didn't have any impression of him. It was not until the second half that I began to notice such a simple father, brewing the most concentrated outbreak of emotion in the film.
Liu Xiaochun is a very clean boy. He is lovable at the age of thirteen. The audience can forgive him even if his lines and performances are not well received. What's more, he can make up for his lack of acting skills with his own performances. This film uses music throughout. Although classical music is not my favorite, I will still be deeply moved by the melody in the film and bring it into the picture, with the emotional ups and downs of the actors.
Director Chen's own role is also unfortunate, basically a hypocritical and emotionless professor image, which people really can't like. In the process of watching, I always feel that the person who has no feelings is Director Chen, but there is a huge gap with the strongest adoptive father-son family relationship he wants to convey in the whole film.
There is also the feeling of the old hutongs and red walls and yellow tiles in Beijing in this film.
A good movie can be watched again and again. Late night essays. Disorderly speech.
