"Under the Sun"
I forgot why I learned about this documentary, but after knowing that the director didn't turn off the camera after the official shooting, and risked recording some unknown North Korea, I decided that I must watch this film , because I want to know what the real North Korea looks like.
"Under the Sun" is a script provided by the North Korean government by Russian director Vitaly Mansky to present the North Korean people "under the sun" to the audience based on the life of a little girl from Pyongyang, North Korea, the Xin Mi family. The beautiful life of the ... Of course, the above is just the beautiful vision of the North Korean government before the official release of the documentary. The director made a huge joke with the North Korean government, which wanted to show the world with this documentary that "North Korea is the happiest country in the world", thus making the final result of the documentary run counter to the government's wishes.
In the whole documentary, what impressed me the most was the dialogue between the guides sent by the North Korean government and the subjects before the "performance": "Relax", "Don't think that this is a movie", "Smile and think of this as your own home"... These "fake" guidance shots to a certain extent, I don't know if they can be called "truth within falsehood" or "falsehood within truth". There was a scene where Xin Mei's family had breakfast. From eight o'clock in the morning shown on the clock, until the sunset appeared outside the window, there was still a table full of several plates of rice and the family of three constantly changing lines. Of course, it's not just these things that make people laugh. Before watching this film, I learned that in order to show the world that "North Korea is the happiest country in the world", the North Korean side took the protagonist's little girl Xin Mei's father It is set as the manager of a weaving factory, and the mother's character is set as a worker in a soy milk factory. (When choosing the protagonist's family, the Russian director chose the Xinmei family because his father's real occupation was a newspaper editor, his mother's real occupation was a restaurant waiter, and he felt that such a combination would be more interesting.) The efficiency of the weaving factory has improved After 200%, it was really touching that Xin Mei's father, as a manager, sent flowers three times to the most conscientious worker. As for Xin Mei's mother's colleagues, they lined up to applaud Xin Mei for joining the Young Pioneers twice before going to work. They really showed us the enthusiasm of the North Korean people who love their work and their concern for their colleagues. However, the fact is that the North Korean side has already arranged the position of each actor and the time of their appearance, and even the lines and clapping are all the same as the script. There are actually many more such lenses, so I won't repeat them one by one. However, what I have to mention is the last scene - after the shooting, the director still did not turn off the camera. Xin Mei was sad because the reluctant director left. At this time, the director asked the translator to comfort Xin Mei and let her think of some good, happy thing. However, Xin Mei couldn't think of it, "Do you know some poems and ballads that sound good?" Xin Mei thought for a while, "...I joined the main movement that was founded by the great leader Kim Il-sung...becoming a radiant Juche movement. The successor of the move, I swear." The oath of joining the team turned out to be the best poems and songs that a Korean boy like a flower knew. It was thought-provoking but also a little fortunate that his childhood was still a real joy. .
Of course, when this documentary, which is intended to expose the ugliness and hypocrisy, was broadcast in some countries and regions, North Korea sent letters to the director three times, and even banned the release of the little girl's life by threatening it. This can't help but cause us to think. We don't know if we should thank the director and his team for letting the world see the confusion, helplessness and the fear in the eyes of the bright smiles of the people in this country, or should they be accused of ignoring the actors' real exposure. the serious consequences of exposing sin and hypocrisy.
