The influence of Japan can also be seen everywhere in the film. Under the early colonization, the Japanese brought the initial development of medicine, commerce, and Western learning. People in this province must be fluent in Japanese if they want to develop in key positions. Maybe there is an overlap of wishes in some places, maybe this is the reason why Shizuko's brother and Kanmei's brother are close. After bringing about these developments, the influence of Japanese culture on Taiwanese culture cannot be easily erased. But this does not mean that Taiwan has been completely tamed by Japan. The older generation insists that these clan relations continue to be passed down to the gods and the clans whose Hokkien language comes from the other side of the strait.
During this period, most of the people who went to Taiwan were unsatisfactory due to the political situation in the mainland. Chinese, Japanese, Taiwanese, people from other provinces and people from the province, family and country, times and individuals, too many questions and entanglements become a dead knot that cannot be solved. If I, as a native of the province, have gone through these kinds of changes, as Lin Wenxiong said, "Only Taiwan is a child who has no mother's pain, and I can't help but feel cold and sad." And even the fugitives from other provinces after World War II have long since changed their hometowns beyond recognition for another political struggle they experienced on the mainland they could not return to. The only thing that seemed to be grasped was the ground beneath his feet. I hope that it can make changes little by little according to what we hoped, and then there will be a step-by-step democratic struggle, from darkness to light, as long as there is a little gap, it will grow recklessly. So I understand more and more why Zhang Tiezhi said that in the history of democratic development in Taiwan, localization is an important driving factor (to the effect).
Compared with the always cold and cruel reality, Xin Shufen's narration is the only warm color. For the first time, I feel that the dubbing of Hokkien is so moving.
