dazed eyes

Nearly a century of legends, stories, memories, and all the rubbish piled up here, making it one of the dirtiest rivers...
If one day I'm gone, will you look for me like a motor?
Yes.
Will you keep looking for me?
Can.
Will you always find death?
Can.
you are lying.
At the beginning of the movie, there is such a dialogue, the heroine asks silly questions, and there is no emotion in the voice of the hero. Before I got too deep, I thought she was a silly woman asking questions that all men would answer with lies. However, I was wrong because of that sentence "You lied".
Meimei has always been a smart woman. Smart is intimidating. She pursues love, working hard and hesitating. Similar to peonies. She couldn't believe it, she didn't believe that the relationship between her and the photographer was love, she felt that the relationship between Ma and Peony was love, she only believed that in this world only Ma would always be looking for it, and only feelings like Ma would be able to called love. So, she said "you lied".
When Ma Ma didn't appear in Meimei's life, Meimei and the photographer lived a very dull couple life without any surprises. And the appearance of the motor is like dropping a gravel on a calm lake, and everything changes. There were also ripples in Meimei's heart, and she realized love. She listened to Mada talk about his love with Peony, over and over again, without disdain or impatience. Ma-ma thinks he has found Peony, and Mi-mei has found true love.
The movie has Lou Ye's consistent style, with shaking shots, vicissitudes of language, and sad love. The constantly shaking camera is like their fiercely colliding hearts. They can't be calm. Although they are young, their hearts have obviously been vicissitudes for a hundred years. They are destined to have no happy ending, because they are always hurting the people around them. People, they think what they do is right, they don't think about the feelings of those around them.
I always thought that Meimei and Peony are the same person, but the end of the film clearly tells us that they are not the same person, but they fell in love with the same person - Ma. However, Ma Ma only loves Mudan from beginning to end, and he and Meimei are just because of Mudan's words "I will become a mermaid and come to you". But in the end, Ma and Peony died under the halo of love, and Meimei didn't get the love she wanted in the end.
The love of Maada and Peony is like that wortgar with bison grass. More aggressive and more intense than the average Votgar. Wotgar with bison grass was smuggled in after all, and smuggling would eventually be found out and banned, just as their love would end one day. And Meimei and the photographer are just ordinary Votgars, so they will get bored one day, so they will inevitably be separated. In the end, Meimei left, and the photographer did not know if they would go to her, but they all left with hope. Just like Mada's promise to Peony at the beginning, this film has another layer of beautiful emotions.
Just like Lou Ye's other films, people can still find hope in the decadence, and everything is just a piece of trance...
Just like the song sings:
can't see your face / can't see your eyes / A trance / hazy night / no stars and no lights / / can't see your face / can't see your sight / you always emerge / night in the rain / no stars and no lights / / but I always see Your face keeps appearing / Always trying to catch your sight / But you always blow past me like the wind / Gently blow away my joy / Slowly leave my loneliness / See my eyes vaguely / Still a trance
