The struggle to tear apart the personality, my humble opinion.

This film has a single scene, few characters and few dialogues, and most of the plot of the whole film is completed in the car. From a purely visual point of view, this is a passerby film made at a low cost and has nothing to watch. However, what makes this film stand out is that after watching it, it leaves the audience with a huge space for imagination.

I can't vomit, it's really uncomfortable, I want to talk about my views on this film.

From the plot point of view, it is a newlyweds who go on a honeymoon and drive through the desert at night to another city. On the way, they bumped into a man with blood all over his face. They did not leave the blood man behind and carried him back to the car. However, they got lost on the desert road and couldn't find a way out. The blood man also suddenly woke up and said some strange things to them. The male protagonist kept comforting the bloody man, saying that he would take him to the hospital to save him. But the blood man suddenly restrained the hero and wanted to kill him. The two fought, and in the end the male protagonist smashed the bloody man to death. With the help of the heroine, they buried the blood man's body in the desert. Both were terrified in their hearts, and both tried to forget it all. When they came to a rest area, the male protagonist found that his watch was missing. He suspected that it had landed in the place where the body was buried, and asked to go back and retrieve it so that no evidence would be left behind. The heroine refused to go back because of her fear, but the hero had no choice but to drive back and let the heroine wait for him in the rest area. When he found the burial site, he found that the body was gone. Then, he heard the sound of gunfire in the distance. He drove back immediately, and the heroine was gone. He looked around and found a hand in a pit, but it wasn't the heroine's, it was another woman's hand. He was frightened, and drove away quickly, and hit a policeman on the road. At the request of the policeman, they returned to the rest area, where a lot of policemen had come, and the policemen dug up another body from the ground. heroine. The male protagonist felt that he couldn't speak clearly when he saw this. So, he took advantage of the unpreparedness of the police and secretly drove away. To get off the police, he drove very fast and ended up in a car accident and overturned. He fell bloody, and just as he stood up, he was hit by an oncoming car. A man got out of the car, it turned out to be the hero himself, repeating the previous plot, the bloody man was carried into the car, in a daze, the bloody man woke up, he saw the hero driving in front of him, and all the past was vivid in his mind. , the blood man let out a desperate roar, and the film ended.

This plot is ridiculous, and the director seems to want to lead the audience into a vicious circle of endless loop. Of course, many people think this is an endless loop after reading it. If you want to break this endless cycle, only the blood man kills the male protagonist, and this cycle will not continue. This also explains why the blood man will suddenly attack the male protagonist and try to kill him.

However, I think, things are not so simple. I don't think it's a sci-fi surreal endless loop, but a different scenario. Let's go back to the beginning of the film, in the motel, a dialogue between the hero and heroine. The actor said that when he was 16 years old, he was very infatuated with a blond girl. But due to cowardice in his heart, he did not communicate with the girl and missed the girl.

Everything starts from here. The male protagonist hates his cowardice, and the blonde girl in his subconscious has become an existence that he wants but cannot get. This presence tormented and twisted his heart all the time, resulting in a frenzied paranoia that slowly evolved into a hatred of blondes. However, his heart was originally kind. The result of the coexistence of the two mentalities is that he eventually became a schizophrenic perverted murderer.

Back at the motel, the male protagonist woke up and looked at the sleeping heroine (the heroine was blonde), and had such an inner OS: "I like this woman, I like it very much, even if I don't know her name." Look When he arrived, his heart revealed no doubt that he liked this woman very much, because of her blonde hair, even if she didn't know her name, it didn't matter. He likes blond hair, just blond hair. The hero knows very little about the heroine's past, and they got married in a flash.

Then they drove through the hot desert at night, with the hero driving and the heroine sleeping in the co-pilot. A lightning flashed and the heroine woke up. They started a dialogue. In the dialogue, when the heroine said that she wanted to stabilize, buy a house, have a child, and raise a dog, the hero was very surprised, and he said why he couldn't start from a young age. It means that your wish is too great, and I can't accept it. This fully embodies the cowardice of the male protagonist. He dare not face the kind of life that the female protagonist said, which also shows that at the age of 16, this cowardice became an obstacle for him to communicate with the girl he likes. Because he is afraid, afraid to meet girls, there will be a great psychological burden.

Because the weather was very hot, the heroine couldn't take it anymore, so she took out the ice cubes from the freezer in the back seat and masturbated in front of the hero. I think this section is completely imagined by the actor's split personality. This masturbation scene is very long and full of eroticism. I think it is a subconscious image of the male protagonist who yearns for the blonde to show in front of him, his fanatical love for the blonde, the blonde masturbating in front of him, this fantasy should have appeared in his mind more than once.

The more they drive, the fewer cars there are on the road, and in the end it's just them. Suddenly, they bumped into a man with blood all over his face. I think this is a scene he imagined, and the blood man is just another split personality of his perverted twist. This can be seen from the dialogue with the blood man after he wakes up. The blood man knows the hero and the heroine, and even implies that the heroine once worked as a stripper in a strip club. This is of course what the perverted personality thinks, because he is perverted, so he fantasizes the blonde who caused him to be a woman in that kind of place.

When his two personalities appeared in the car at the same time, what happened later, there is no doubt that the driver was the kind-hearted character of the male protagonist, which can be seen from his saving the blood man. The blood man wanted to kill the kind personality, and the kind personality didn't want to be wiped out by the perverted personality, so they fought. It turned out that the good personality killed the perverted personality and buried him in the ground.

This part is all his own fantasy. The real situation should be like this, nothing happened on the road, the male protagonist drove with the female protagonist all the way to a rest stop. At that rest stop, the hero ends up killing the heroine and burying her in a nearby field. This wasn't the first blonde he'd killed. It can be seen from the other hand he dug out later that he had killed a lot of blondes in this way before.

But this is not the case in the plot. In the plot, the actor's watch is lost, and he suspects that it fell on the place where the bloody man was buried. After the communication with the heroine was invalid, he went to find the watch himself, and the heroine stayed and waited for him. In this fantasy, he returned to the burial place and found that the body of the blood man was gone. Therefore, the perverted personality has not been eliminated, he still exists. The kind-hearted personality is beyond remorse, and he realizes that the heroine is in danger. The perverted personality will kill her. Subsequent gunshots confirmed his thoughts, and he drove back quickly. But the heroine could not be found.

The kind personality completely collapsed, and he was swallowed by the perverted personality step by step. At the end when the heroine's body was dug up by the police, he couldn't accept the fact, and his cowardly character reappeared, that is, escape. In the process of escaping, his kindness disappeared little by little. In the end, he overturned the car, and the bloody man appeared after the overturned car, and the perverted personality regained the advantage. So, this shows that in a series of cases, the perverted personality finally won the victory. That is, he became a serial killer.

Dark Country quotes

  • Gina: [as they drive on with their bloodied passenger in the back] It's your fault, you know. You're the one who's driving, you should know where we're going.

Dick: Hey, whoa, somebody messed with the road signs or something.

    Gina: [sarcastic] Right.

Dick: Something. I'm telling ya, I didn't make a wrong turn.

    Gina: [raising her eyes] Jesus.

Dick: So what if I did? This guy would be dead if we hadn't come along! Is this how you handle stress? Just go on the attack?

Gina: We're lost in the desert in the middle of the fucking night. This guy is gonna die if we don't get him help.

Dick: Thank you for the support.

    [adding disapprovingly:]

    Dick: All the same.

Gina: "All"? What's that supposed to mean, "all"? Who all?

[behind her, the bloodied man comes to, and sits upright]

Gina: Not the first impulse you've made on this little drive? Huh?

[and then she looks into his bloodied face]

  • Bloodyface: [as the car speeds along] Okay, Dick. I've got a little question for ya. You ready?

    [Dick frowns]

Bloodyface: You ever been to Cheetahs?

    Dick: Cheetahs? What's that?

Bloodyface: A little strip club... downtown Vegas.

[clearly hitting on a nerve with Gina]

Dick: Can't say that I have.

Bloodyface: That's too bad, you know. It's a nice place. There are good girls there.

Gina: [whirling around] Who are you talking about?

Bloodyface: They're just doing what they have to do to survive. Right?

Dick: Hey, pal, what are you saying? You trying to freak us out?

Bloodyface: I'm sorry, man. I didn't mean to upset you. It's just... it's been a little bit of a rough night, you know?

    [silent as he smokes]

    Bloodyface: For all of us.

Dick: All right, buddy, all right. Hey, you'd better tell us what happened back there, huh?

Bloodyface: [long silence] Have you ever been murdered before?
