Anyone who has seen this movie may know what it's like to be swayed by a 12-year-old Zhengtai. The old blushed.
The film begins with a long series of parallel montages, explaining the background of the two protagonists of the story and explaining why the two meet:
The male protagonist Reggie is a 12-year-old genius boy. It seems that everything is easy for him: skip a few grades, look out the window to answer the teacher's questions without listening to the class at all, play the cello well, and even write the music for the school band.
The heroine, Eleanor, works as a waiter in a restaurant, and her boyfriend claims to be a musician who doesn't do his job every day. Finally fed up with her boyfriend, Eleanor threw her boyfriend's guitar down the window and moved out of the house where the two lived together. On the same day, her boyfriend went to the restaurant to mess around, and she lost her job. On the same day, Eleanor had no place to live, no job, and nowhere to go.
Then, the two finally met: Eleanor went to an employment agency and got a job as a babysitter, taking care of Reggie.
Although the living conditions of the two are completely different, a rich young master and a down-to-earth waiter (if Reggie is not 12 but 21, it would be a proper Cinderella story, fortunately not), but both of them have a The common feature is loneliness.
Reggie's father died early, and her mother remarried. Although they lived together, they didn't seem to care about him, and were only satisfied with money and life. The maid also just does her job and has no emotional connection. He is either hiding in the house reading a book, or playing the piano in an empty swimming pool.
Eleanor's parents were divorced, and her mother and stepfather often spoke ill of her, and they were reluctant to take her in for a while. Boyfriend is like a giant baby, irresponsible and grumpy.
Ji Lao has a saying that everyone knows, "On the road of life, everyone is a lonely traveler". This movie illustrates this well. Even if we meet and know each other, we will say goodbye in the end.
A lonely traveler is that no one can accompany you all the time, even passers-by, and many people just pass by. Eleanor and Reggie are.
You may ask: how! There are so many stories between two people in the movie, how can they be passersby.
But what is the end of the story? He waved his hand and returned to his original life. The genius boy continued to be the lonely genius boy in the class, the waiter continued to be the lonely waiter in the restaurant, and he didn't even go to work at the western ski resort as she and Reggie said.
That's what makes this movie special. In movies, we rarely see the shadow of our common routines.
A young nanny is arranged to take care of a withdrawn boy, what will happen if he follows the routine? There are several factors that come into play:
① There must be conflict at first encounter. The boy refuses to accept the new nanny, and even speaks harshly to her;
② When the nanny takes care of the boy, unexpected situations will inevitably occur. For example, the boy suddenly has a high fever, and the nanny rushes to send the boy to the hospital or calls frantically to ask how to deal with it, and then the relationship between the two people takes this opportunity to warm up;
③ It will inevitably have an impact on the apparent lives of each other. For example, the domineering teenager, the rich second generation, arranges a good job for the nanny with a wave of his hand, which will change her life from now on;
④ From temporary care to permanent companionship, at least we can see each other often, "together forever".
Do these bridges all seem familiar?
The correspondence between the hatchbacks also precisely reflects the difference of "Like a sunny day, like a rainy day":
① The two shook hands when they first met, and quickly became acquainted on the way home;
② Throughout the summer, the two lived a slow-paced life, reading a book on a park bench, lying on the lawn and chatting;
③ After saying goodbye, the heroine returned to her hometown and continued to work as a waiter. The hero knew that the heroine had missed the opportunity to study at the Juilliard School for financial reasons and did not persuade her or support her to go back to fulfill her music dream;
④ After the employment relationship ended, the heroine dragged the box and left, and did not even stay in New York.
Even the whole movie is as warm as a glass of boiled water, there are no strong ups and downs in the middle, and several conflict points that were thought to break out, namely the conflicts between ex-boyfriends, single-parent families, heroines and parents, did not bring any major setbacks.
But at the end of the film, the boy suddenly said, "It's strange, we have only been together for two months, but I seem to have known you all my life."
Seeing comments on the Internet, many people suddenly cried when they saw this sentence.
It can even be said that the emotions that were paved the way for the slightly boring plot finally broke out here. If I have to describe this emotion, in my opinion, it is "lost".
It was like waking up suddenly from a beautiful dream, thinking about how sweet and beautiful everything was in the dream. But it stopped abruptly, and it was very difficult to continue, and I didn't know what to do for a while. Dream is not a series, after waking up, you can go to the next episode. So all you have is what you have experienced in your dreams.
In fact, the disappointment at the end of the film is the most real look of life.
Like a sunny day, like a rainy day, I haven't figured out what the title of the film means. But it can only be said that this is neither Happy Ending nor Bad Ending.
The movie redefines a kind of emotion, beyond friendship, it is not sisterhood, it is not love. Not all emotions can be defined.
The director's silhouette when saying goodbye is really a chicken thief. You tell me it's the face, right?
Many people hope that the two of them can come together, which can be regarded as "I was born before you, but I am old when you are born", and become a development. But regardless of IQ or emotional injury, Reggie, who is much more mature than her peers, said a sentence in the film, which can be regarded as an answer:
When talking about the maid eating alone in the kitchen, Eleanor said, "What a pity."
"Maybe you're imposing your values and morals on her," Reggie said.
This sentence may also explain the director's thinking.
This film was written and directed by Frank Wiley. He used to have the script in his hand and couldn't find a company willing to invest in it for several years, just because the plot was too bland and the ending was "unsatisfactory", which was not everyone's favorite effect. Having tried to change the plot, he finally insisted on the original idea, and this is the unique "Like a sunny day, like a rainy day".
If he does have to make major changes to the script (such as a version where the hero and heroine are shot at the end), then he is really being imposed on values and morals.
Don't argue, in life, we are each other's passers-by. Well, it's just passing by.
Eleanor and Reggie just passed each other, but they bumped a little bit hard. Some stories happened between the two, leaving traces of their past in each other's lives.
But what if it hits hard? I will continue to be a waiter, and you will continue to be a lonely genius boy. You didn't change my life, and I didn't change yours. Of course, the influence we have on each other will not go away.
We passed by and I didn't change your direction and you didn't change mine. But this encounter left a real touch, even pain, on each other's shoulders. will not disappear.
This kind of disappointment is the way life is.
Finally, I have to say that the director is really cruel. Another parallel montage, two people complete the ensemble in different time and space. The addition of the cornet is a real killer.
In the end, Reggie played the violin in the empty pool, and Eleanor didn't teach Reggie to swim.
