Personally, I'm not against eating dog meat, but I wouldn't. The main reason is that I've always been resistant to unconventional meats and would find it disgusting. Sister Feng's previous Weibo post started from "China's traditional farming economy, combined with the reality that cattle are also eaten", I also think it is quite reasonable. At the same time, I also don't understand how much affection people pour into dogs being eaten. However, after reading "Kekexili", everything suddenly changed slightly. I don’t like animals myself, so it’s hard to understand with empathy, but maybe there is some kind of deep affection between humans and a certain species. Those Tibetans probably don't know much about the ecological value and research value of Tibetan antelope. But they felt that was something worth protecting with their lives. Not for fame, not for profit, but a kind of persistence like religious belief.
But at the same time, there are contradictions. In the eyes of some poor Tibetans, the Tibetan antelope is just a lively RMB. I am a proponent of heavy penalties for hunting and destroying cherished protected animals and plants. But think about it, some of them may just take the risk to feed themselves and make ends meet. They do not steal or rob, but attack non-similar animals and plants. Kind of like an animal instinct. Hungry beast, who cares what kind of animal you are, just fill your belly. What ecological value, scientific research value, etc., falls on some individuals and does not seem to have much significance.
What can be an easy-to-understand reason that can be generally accepted by everyone to protect and love animals? I racked my brains, thinking of nothing more than love, "humanity, awe and respect for other species". Why is a road cut in two by a century-old tree? Why should pandas be treated so preciously? I think in addition to their own value, it is more a kind of awe and respect. Humans are undoubtedly the absolute dominant species on this planet. You can no longer measure yourself by the standards of beasts, you can't say that you cut down trees to build roads, and you let animals fend for themselves for development. Humanity already has enough science and technology and ability to avoid some killing and destruction. The situation may be embarrassing, the conditions may be harsh, but there is always a way, and you can no longer arbitrarily satisfy your life at the expense of other creatures. Because you are human.
The development of human beings in the past few hundred years has undoubtedly caused irreversible damage to the ecology of the entire earth. Some of our actions today may be overkill. But that is a warning: the development of human beings should always pay attention to the moderation. We can no longer kill animals indiscriminately, we can no longer reclaim the land, even if it is innocuous and small, it will not be tolerated. The warning line must be higher than the bottom line to avoid damage as much as possible. We must have a sense of awe to prevent the development of too fast and too blind, to always let people examine whether they will make irreparable mistakes, to wake up those unbridled arrogant dreams.
The dog meat festival has been criticized by the international community for a long time. Japanese people who hunted whales said that China is 50 steps and 100 steps. I don't agree with this point of view. How can dogs and whales be compared in terms of living conditions? But what about human emotions? The situation may be different. At the same time there is a long-standing dispute over why we can eat pork, beef, and mutton, but not dog.
I have an answer that I am not happy with. We are human, we are above other species, we can eat dog meat and other things. But this does not mean that we can do whatever we want. On the contrary, we must have a sense of awe to limit our desires and abilities. It’s not that we can’t eat dog meat, but we must have a little reverence, and don’t make big fanfare and publicize it; it’s not impossible to love dogs, and it’s good to protect dogs, but be careful not to affect the lives of others in their private areas; whales are not allowed to be killed, Because there are few of them, but if you have the conditions to raise them yourself, then I don't think it's a big problem; Tibetan antelopes are not unkillable, and when their numbers return to their original normal levels, they can be hunted scientifically and quantitatively.
