Before watching "Kekexili", like many people, I was full of unrealistic romantic fantasies about the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and simply regarded the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau as a holy land for my ideals. I have never seriously thought about whether I can survive and whether I can still take into account my ideals if I really go to the plateau. Some people say that since then, "Kekexili" has completely become the opposite of "Shangri-La". So I would like to thank Lu Chuan, who made the world see everything clearly, the cruelty of reality and the insignificance of himself.
Lu Chuan is a brave man. Because he can lead a huge team to stay in a place like Hoh Xil for 106 days, and made a movie, a movie called "Kekexili". I don't know what kind of meaning Hoh Xil has to him in Lu Chuan's heart. But the force that hit Lu Chuan's soul, I saw it, I saw it in the movie. When watching "Kekexili", for the first time, I felt that I was standing side by side with the director. We all silently watched all the creatures, including Tibetan antelopes, including people, that survived on this land in Hoh Xil. They are all equal. We can only pray sincerely for them. At last year's Golden Horse Awards, when the beautiful hostess introduced "Kekexili", she said that it was a film about protecting animals. And what I want to say is that this is by no means an environmental film, and most of the time it has nothing to do with good people and good deeds. While exploring the essence of life, Hoh Xil tries to soothe the human soul. Compared with the fifth-generation directors, they are more realistic and less self-pity than the sixth-generation directors. This is Lu Chuan. His shots are honest and untouched. Some people criticized him for going too far. But compared to those who rely on fame and awards to make movies, Lu Chuan is one of the few remaining directors who can be honest with the movie itself.
After all, the greatness of the movie still has to return to the movie itself. Maybe it is too early to say whether "Kekexili" is great or not, but in any case, "Kekexili" is destined to be different. Although "Kekexili" is a feature film, some scenes in her feel more like a documentary to me, and it's so plain that it's close to realism. Many people have criticized that the plot of "Kekexili" is too smooth and the portrayal of the characters is not deep enough. But this is what I appreciate the most about "Kekexili", there is no exaggeration, no compassion for the heavens and people, and no high praise. In the film, they are the most ordinary people on that uninhabited plateau, and any blizzard or car accident can take their lives. But in front of the screen, for those of us who watch movies, they are the cutest people in the world.
Especially Liu Dong's death shocked me far beyond my expectations. With his body submerged in the yellow sand slowly sinking, the blood that was originally calm in my body also boiled little by little. This small car accident, inadvertently slipped, but Liu Dong's life was swallowed by quicksand. Without warning, it was so simple and so vicious that it shocked me. But the reality is so cruel, in any great moment someone dies, no exception. At the end of the film, the captain Ritai also finally died under the gun of the poachers, which was also a death without warning. But this is also the doomed ending of the film as soon as it starts shooting, and it is also the best ending of the film, the original ending. And I finally realized that the murderer who killed Ritai was not just a poacher.
Lu Chuan filmed "Kekexili" in a way that was almost a documentary, but for the film itself, Lu Chuan tried to stay out of it. I understand that this was intentional. He was trying to avoid letting his emotions get mixed up in the film.
This simple film, a film so simple that it is almost doubtful, makes me believe that the toughness that dissolves in the bones can eventually sprout and blossom through the ruthless destruction of reality, like a vine that breeds and climbs.
