I want to talk about Monster Hunt

I watched the roadshow on the 10th, and I was so excited to write a long film review when I came back. First, I felt that it might not be objective if I wrote a film review right away, and second, it was delayed until today because of other things. Coinciding with the first day of release, the box office broke the record, which is gratifying.

Is Monster Hunt a perfect movie? I want to gather all my strength to say yes, but the strength is not enough. No, Monster Hunter isn't a perfect movie, instead it has obvious flaws. Is Monster Hunt a good movie? I think not everyone likes this form, this style or even this way of expression. From the perspective of most people, especially most girls, the answer is yes. Is Monster Hunt a good movie? I think my answer is yes.
I personally think that there are three elements of a good movie: technology, image, and story. The three complement each other and are indispensable.

As far as Monster Hunt is concerned, the technology is something to be proud of, not to say that its technology has reached the pinnacle and has reached the highest level in the world. But it is really a happy thing that the CG technology of our domestic films has reached this level. I really hate that kind of thing that says that domestic films are bad films, and that they are killed by Hollywood in seconds. It always reminds me of the kid from someone else's family that my mother always mentioned when I was a child. I have always believed in the saying that the economic base determines the superstructure. As a mainland entertainment industry where TV sets were not yet popularized in the 1990s, do you want to make it catch up with Hollywood in 20 years (only from a technical point of view)? I would like to say that what I see is not only the gap at home and abroad, but also the efforts made by the domestic industry here. We have investors willing to sponsor such a film, and we have directors willing to leave DreamWorks and come back to make their own films. This is something we should be proud of, and we should look forward to the future, right? So I give the technique a 5.

In terms of video, I want to put the actors' acting skills and the various monster characters in this section. Without a doubt, the best character in the play is Huba. Whether Huba is more like a Chinese monster or more like a Western monster, its image and character shaping are very successful, which is also the key to the success of this film. The existence of big-name actors has broken the curse of star cameos being a bad movie. Although the interpretation and existence of some characters are controversial, it is undeniable that they will not let people play in their respective roles. Among them, the role and interpretation of Mr. Jiang Wu is my favorite. Although he has always had a serious face, for some reason, it makes people want to laugh involuntarily. Some people mentioned that the types of monsters are a bit small. Indeed, it seems that apart from the main characters, there are no monsters in big scenes. Hope to see this scene in the second part. But the director is like a little girl, although there is no grand scene, but he handles the details very well. For example, the difference between male and female monsters (male monsters have four arms and two legs, female monsters have two arms and four legs), the changes in the plants on the heads of monsters when they are angry, the comparison between thin and tall and fat, and more important monsters expression. The details depend on sincerity, and I give the image 4 points.

story. As you can see, the story is very simple. It's so simple that it seems that I've really seen this kind of context. The way the story is told is a bit like the story a father tells his daughter before going to bed at night. There are many descriptive paragraphs, but the overall sense of rhythm is somewhat lacking. For example, a little yellow dog rescued a little frog by the pond. Dad may have put a little more space on the beautiful scenery the little yellow dog saw on the way to the pond. As a result, when I first watched the movie, I couldn't grasp the main line of the story, and it felt a little scattered. But fortunately, the development of the second half gradually closed, and the tone of the whole movie came out. But what is commendable is that the director's usual delicate style is still continued in storytelling, such as the creation of demon words, such as the love between the little characters Slender and Fat Ying. I often joke about "Hollywood blockbusters", most of which are the same story, the hero has gone through all kinds of difficulties to defeat the bad guy (or maybe the bad monster, the bad alien, the bad dinosaur) and save the world (or an island, Or a city), the story of winning the heart of the heroine. But why do we still like to watch it, or take out the money in our pockets? It is because they add new stalks, new laughs, and new tears in various details. I personally think this may be caused by the different ways of telling stories at home and abroad. Our way is how to make the development of the story itself more twisted and bizarre, and their way is how to make a simple story fascinating. When I watched Tiger Mountain by Wisdom, I suddenly felt that our culture of 5,000 years should have more material and more material to appear in the movie. Why is it not as good as some so-called Hollywood blockbusters? It's really that a lot of our directors lack the storytelling ability to engage the audience. As far as Monster Hunt is concerned, it is more inclined to the Hollywood narrative, but the gist of the whole story seems to be that different people have different interpretations. The first is the relationship between father and son, the relationship between Huba and Tianyin. Second, the relationship between humans and monsters is also interpreted as the relationship between humans and wild animals. The third, that is, the final theme song sings, we can't hide in the shell forever, we must bravely write the strange book of our own life. As far as the story goes, I give it a 3. This is the first live-action film made by a director, and I hope the second film will make more progress.

Finally, I would like to confess to Boss Jiang. I really haven't seen a movie advertised like this. On the basis of no hype, he used all available resources and contacts to pave the way for Monster Hunt, and personally traveled to major universities and cinemas across the country to promote it. I don't want to mention those behind-the-scenes stories floating around on Weibo. I just saw a big boy eager to share what he loves with everyone. Before the 10th, I asserted with my best friend that even if the production level of Dasheng and Monster Hunt are similar, Dasheng's reputation will be better than Monster Hunt, because people are used to sympathizing with the weak. But personally, I admire Boss Jiang more. What China lacks is not people who love movies, not people with lofty ideals who have a great interest in making movies, not high-level directors and actors, but Boss Jiang who has money, heart and attitude investors. May the success of these two films allow us to see the future of Chinese films.
