The story begins with a few short sentences explaining the background. Humans rule the world, and monsters drive into the mountains. In the world of demons, there are also good and evil. Most demons live in peace, while a few demons are woeful to the world. Evil demons are subdued by celestial masters. Similarly, in the world of demons, there are demon kings and queens, rebel ministers and sons, and they conspire to usurp the throne. This is very similar to the way humans rule. So what's the difference between a monster and a human?
In the world of demons, Zhu Gao and Pang Ying are loyal ministers to guard the little demon king; the villagers of Yongning Village have been living in harmony with human beings for decades, supporting and caring for each other, and they are obedient people; the little demon king Huba is innocent and sincere. Born in the stomach of human beings, they have deep feelings with human beings. For this reason, they even give up their nature and change to vegetarianism. They are pure and cute creatures. Even so, they could not escape the fate of being killed by a group of dignitaries and cooking food in Dengxian Tower. The people who are the guests of honor in the Dengxian Tower are powerful and rich human beings. In the human world view, demons are aliens, and aliens should be eaten regardless of good and evil. In the part of cooking monsters, although the plot is very happy, my reaction is uncomfortable. Some demons are cooked into sashimi, stewed, marinated, fried, and steamed. Even when it can't cook, it is used to eat the demon brain raw. This discomfort stems from the fact that these demons have been endowed with human emotions. Except for the difference in skin appearance, their inner emotions are no different from human beings. Therefore Tianyin will protect Xiaowu, villagers and Huba across races, and fight against the humans who harm them. Are humans and demons inherently opposed to each other?
Cooking these monsters reminds me of the way we treat fish, cows, sheep, dogs, and even the highly intelligent primate monkeys. Most of these animals are harmless, and some of them are even loyal friends of human beings, but they still cannot escape the fate of being slaughtered. The difference is that the animals that are slaughtered daily by us cannot communicate and have not yet established mutual emotions with people. Therefore, slaughtering food becomes a matter of course. (Of course, I'm not a vegetarian, and I have no intention of questioning the meat-eaters at fault.) Some say that they are inferior animals, and in order to ensure the balance of the species, their destiny is born to be tasted by humans. But from another point of view, isn't this law of the law of the weak made by humans themselves? In the world of these so-called lower animals, isn't human beings the biggest alien that invades them? If one day, a species more powerful and advanced than humans appears, will the fate of being slaughtered fall on the heads of humans?
Humans rule the world and are representatives of power. Therefore, having a human skin is envied by demons, so one Ge Qianhu is not enough. He wears seven or eight human skins. As for some people, they strip away their handsome skin, their desires erode their inner self, lose their true kindness, and even kill their own kind. How is that different from an evil demon? Some demon skins are ugly in appearance, but they endow people with good intentions and coexist harmoniously with human beings. Isn't it more lovely than a wicked person in human skin? From this point of view, man and demon are just a name symbol, and do not represent the absoluteness of right and wrong. The truth and illusion of Zhuang Zhou's dream of butterflies is an eternal philosophical proposition; isn't the distinction between humans and demons also a mysterious proposition that is relative to each other?
Different from the monsters in our traditional impression, the monsters in Monster Hunt are all cute, even the blood monsters representing the evil side were beaten all over by Jiang Wu looking for their teeth, and when they hide their faces and flee, they reveal stupidity. Cute attributes. And it looks like almost all plants become sperm (is it because of the regulations that animals cannot become sperm after the founding of the People's Republic of China, 2333). I think the director deliberately made such an attempt, when the demon is no longer evil and cruel, no longer cold-blooded and bloodthirsty; when the demon becomes soft and cute, pure and kind, can one day change the fate. Although at the end of the film, Huba was still driven into the mountains with his peers and separated from his parents. He could only watch from a distance and miss him silently. But how many people's tears were touched at that moment, we all hope that Huba can be with Tianyin Xiaolan and live in the human world. What about different species, the family affection of human nature is interlinked.
The story is a simple story that even children can understand, but the proposition thrown to us in the simple story is worth thinking about: The difference between a human being and a "demon" is that this skin is beautiful and ugly on the outside? Is it a species difference? Is the conclusion of the winner or the loser? Or the inner good and evil? Is the relationship between humans and "demon" incompatible, killing each other, or can they live on an equal footing and live in harmony?
All things grow, the world is in harmony, maybe this is the good wish that the film wants to express.
