For a long time, I have simply divided films into two types, one is literary connotation, which tortures human nature. For example, "Three Billboards", another violent aesthetic, makes blood flow. For example, "Fast Pursuit". However, this "Iron Rain" combines the two into one, which makes people nervous and think a little more.
The story of "Iron Rain" can be said to be quite bold. It is a fictional story of a coup d'etat in North Korea and the impending outbreak of the Korean-Korean war. Two agents from North and South Korea put aside their prejudices and work together to prevent the war.
In fact, such a story is difficult to control, because there are too many forces involved in the Korean peninsula. In addition to North Korea and South Korea, China, the United States, and Japan are also involved. If you don't have a good ability to control the plot, it is easy to make a pot of porridge and make the audience unclear. But as director Yang Yuxi, who has made such excellent works as "The Defender", he has solved this problem very well. This also shows the director's profound skills.
On the surface, "Iron Rain" is a movie about the civil war between North and South Korea, but it actually reveals a strong anti-war atmosphere. This is reflected most vividly from the North Korean agents. At first, the North Korean agents faced South Korean officials and were full of vigilance, but various experiences in South Korea made him realize that the victims of the war are always the people, and he attempted to split the Korean Peninsula. The leader is the real original sin. In order to protect the people from the suffering of the war, he finally decided to sacrifice himself to smash North Korea's nuclear strike program at his own expense.
At the same time, the film sets the background in the transition of power between two South Korean presidents. The old president's insistence on using nuclear weapons to strike North Korea is a typical representative of the North Korean hardliners, while the new president insists on peaceful reunification and regards the North Koreans as his compatriots. In the end, the old presidential regime collapsed and the new president came to power, which also showed the director's expectations for peace on the peninsula.
