"Iron Rain"
From flu to defender to iron rain, Korean movies have no idea what "scale" is, and the subject matter is so sensitive that it can be called "spectacle movie".
How fortunate, in the world of free expression movies, there is a pure land in Korea.
The image of North Korea has always been cold and emotionless, and the director's task is to find the brilliance of humanity in it.
study notes:
In 2006, Yang Yuxi began to study military knowledge related to North Korea and read books related to the history of the peninsula. When he started writing the script for the film in 2016, he already had the expertise to boldly show the plot of nuclear war in the script.
It is a very surprising film for the sharp offensive and defensive battles between powerful countries and the intertwined political struggles within.
It's a shame that the film's storylines are all going in predictable directions. But what is valuable is that it does not limit the characters to the level of officials, but interweaves the stories of ordinary citizens with the central events, telling what choices ordinary citizens will make and what fate they will face in the face of a national crisis. That's what makes the film interesting to the audience as a whole.
This tells us that creative freedom is the foundation of all good movies.
"Steel Rain" once again refreshed my understanding of Korean commercial films. The literary drama is deeply affectionate, the martial arts drama is rigorous, and the structure and intensity are very balanced. As a genre lover, I think this film is already at a super-Hollywood level, and even if it is Hollywood, the possibility of making it into a pot of porridge is very high. In such a huge South Korea, the power of movies almost surpasses the power of politics. Yesterday on the Korean Peninsula was "Highland War", today is "JSA", and tomorrow is "Steel Rain".
