Abstract - Rethinking Design

I watched this series twice in two weeks. The first time was shocking, and the second time was experiencing and thinking. But this series gave me far more than that, the uniqueness and talent of each designer, and every point of view on the design itself is worth writing down, and even though the screen is separated, I can have a dialogue with their point of view , this documentary makes this collision of souls really come true.

As a very, very ordinary graphic designer, the hardest part of every day is not the exhaustion of inspiration, but the confrontation with mediocrity. As Paula said:

Worse than a disappointing work is a work that no one notices.

At the fork between art and mainstream, every angle of deviation must be carefully considered. And all the designers in this series pointed out to the confused me that if you want to be a "good" (don't dare to say great) designer, you must respect the design itself and deliver our well-thought-out solutions to users. It is also the premise that the design consciousness can progress forever.

The collection is called Abstract, I think to explain the design point of view that each designer wants to convey. Start with one or two specific projects and open their world step by step. This is not design teaching, but it is easier to accept than one step at a time, and this perception will continue. You will try to draw a logo, a small illustration, organize the derivation process of your project, refine and visualize it, and learn to think more deeply and what is the best solution. This abstract guidance is invisible but incomparably powerful. I like ES and Christoph very much. Faced with the contrast of a blank sheet of paper, ES will try to break it, Christoph will grow, different methods and equally interesting designs, I realize that I am not the only one in the world who will stare at blank sheets hahaha .

I would also like to address Abstract as the problem. The fourth episode of Bjarke should be the most questioned in the series. On the surface, his image is also a bit unruly, wild and indomitable. Bjarke said that he has received a lot of bad comments on the Internet. Some people say that his nine-year-old son is better than his design. A ring? And this abstract behavior is undoubtedly invariable. Paula mentioned the expectation value, ES mentioned the villain who was disliked by Kanye, Christoph often took over until the urgent delivery time, and it seemed that no project would not encounter such or such problems. I have to admire the big hearts of these great designers, who knows that Paula's expectation data graph is the result of how many clients "exercise". And I really like ES's pursed smile about his work being taken by the plane.

This series may not be the most beautiful and story-telling design guide, but it is a shot in the arm for designers. I have to say that the director really knows how to shoot, and at the same time keeps the characteristics while guiding, this series itself is close to the "art of design". Thanks to the shooting team and these great designers, I think the third time I can see a different experience.

Pay tribute to design, pay tribute to beauty.
