The film first exposed the living conditions of women in rural India. Being raped, being raped, having arranged marriages, having no say in family and village affairs, being forced to marry an unknown man at the age of thirteen or fourteen, it may be an old man in his 70s or 80s, or an illiterate gangster... The woman who only appeared for a few minutes at the beginning of the film made me give up the film for a while. She was raped by her husband's father, brother, and neighbors. She managed to escape back to her parents' home, and was escorted back by her own father, because a married daughter would be embarrassed by her parents' return to her parents' home in India. It took me a few months to watch the second half.
Second, expressive precious femininity. The patriarchal society always likes to stigmatize the friendship between women, and often says "tear", "intrigue" and "green tea". In fact, the natural friendship between women is mutual support, mutual sympathy, and mutual help. The friendship between women is more precious and inseparable. The sympathy between women makes Rani give up his ignorant son, and instead supports his daughter-in-law to elope with the person she likes and continue her studies.
In the whole film, the only person who speaks a word throughout the whole movie is Billie Ji. Only she can see some truth slightly outside of this woman-eating system. But she didn't escape completely. In fact, she lived outside and at the bottom of the system... Her living conditions were even worse.
The couple who worked hard to bring income to the women in the village, they brought in the business, so that the women in the village could sew handicrafts and sell the money to subsidize the household. And women have income, which makes these men panic. They found that women were better than themselves and could earn money and support the family, so they destroyed the handicrafts that were drying, and ganged up to beat the people who brought in the business and the women who worked hard to make money in the family... alas... anger built up in my heart. How many women are still living such dire days! And what measures have we taken and to what extent have we helped them?
