The whole film revolves around the arduous escape of the Jewish brothers. Through the experience of Joe, it intuitively depicts the various attitudes of the French people in the French market under the dark rule of the Nazis. From the truck driver who kindly picked them up on their escape, to the priest who risked their lives to rescue them, to the members of the resistance who took in the brothers, there was a glorious humanity and unyielding soul in that era.
Even the manager of the bookstore where Joe was a newsboy in the end hated Jews to the core, but he also regarded Joe as a part of his family without knowing it. It has to be said that even evil people have a good nature. It's just a dark age, it's too easy to swallow a person's soul.
And Joe, who has always maintained his original intention, remembered his father's teaching that "when a good person dies, a star will rise in the sky, so never give up hope", on the difficult escape road, facing the environment of death threats at all times , practiced tenaciously and tactfully.
