There are too many scenes that express the atmosphere of a big family. We are always watching the dozens of big family members playing games and eating. . . Sometimes Hollywood really lacks imagination in this respect. It's nothing more than the background music sounds, the family gathers together, the sound disappears, and the camera is pulled apart, which is a bit too standardized. But without the words of the movie itself, this scene is really enviable: the old man sitting there, watching his large group of children and grandchildren laugh and play, isn't this the greatest satisfaction in life.
Some plots are not so strong. For example, Marie fell in love with Dan at the beginning, and what he liked about him is still rather vague. Dan's identity as a writer; the ending catches up with marie and then happy ending; and Mitch is so forgetful (although there is a foreshadowing) and empathizes with ruthie. . . These designs are too mediocre and too standardized.
In this way, apart from the atmosphere of family and love (oh, and Dan’s loser life, that will always make you a little emotional), the best part of the film is the actors. There are so many outstanding actors in such a small film: the popular Steve Carell and the ever-popular Juliette Binoche will not be mentioned; the rest are Amy Ryan, who was quite brilliant in 2007, Dane Cook, who has acted in many films. Two Oscar winners Dianne Wiest (most people will remember her as the mother of Kim in "Edward Scissorhands"), Jessica Hecht, who played susan in the six-person line, and even the small role of Ruthie was played by emily blunt, too It's extravagant-emily really deserves some better roles, the protagonist in a good movie! !
In short, a film of average but feel good, kind of like it.
By the way, this is Peter Hedges' second directorial work. I have always wanted to see the first April Fragment. He is more famous as a screenwriter, such as the famous About a Boy and What's Eating Gilbert Grape. It seems that he has been following the gentle route. There is another interesting point: in the April Shard, the name of the protagonist’s family is burns, and Dan’s family is also the last name! Could this name have any special meaning to the director (for example, the surname of his first love girlfriend? Haha); and the little girl Alison Pill has appeared in both movies and is a child of Burns. . .
