The conscientiousness of the second lieutenant and the panic of several soldiers made people realize the imbalance of this war. At the end of the film, after the protagonists are captured, they are escorted away by the Germans, while the people they defend welcome the arrival of the German army. One by one, it is self-evident.
Denmark has forgotten that it did not die in the unfavourable combat of the soldiers, not in the disparity of strength, but in the people the army defended and the government surrendered to the enemy.
Even the Germans are not used to it, just as the last German officer asked the captured second lieutenant: I just want to know, why did you resist for so long?
