The atmosphere of the whole film is very oppressive, and there is almost no soundtrack in the whole film. Except for the wedding of Zosia's sister at the beginning, the film has no happy scene, but cruel and bloody instead. The footage of the film has a very strong sense of reality, and a large number of torture scenes displayed from the perspective of bystanders give people a very strong sense of presence, and they do not cover up the bloody torture scenes at all. Even the brutal killing of children is undisguised. In contrast, the shootings of the Soviets and Germans are benevolent. Therefore, this film is not suitable for viewers with poor psychological tolerance. There is no clear villain in the whole film, and even the identities of the perpetrator and the victim are often interchanged. For example, after the Ukrainians brutally slaughtered the Poles, they were exchanged for the bloody revenge of the Poles. In the mutual killing, the original neighbors, friends and even family members became enemies, and even religious leaders stood up for the massacre. In fact, no matter how bad the Poles are in history and how miserable the Ukrainians are in Poland, there is no winner in this racial tragedy, and killing will never solve the problem, which is the core of the film's message.
