This film spans 25 years, 3 time periods, and different screen ratios. Jia Zhangke wanted to make some changes and breakthroughs, but it was not very successful. There is nothing special about the shooting effect, and it does not add any different feeling. In 2025, the futuristic feeling is not strong at all, except for the trackpad that is not too bad. Will Australians still drive 1999 VW cars in 2025? Of course, this is not a sci-fi movie, so don't force it.
The main part of this film is about the separation of people, and the feelings of the old people are estranged and difficult to see each other. It's not bad. Telling stories well is Jia Zhangke's strength.
