beautiful old days

I learned about this movie because of a late-night radio show on a certain night. After reading the introduction, I was very impressed. I didn't watch the "before" series. It was the Hong Kong trip plan at the end of the month that prompted me to click on the second day after I decided on a place to live. this movie.

The plot is not brilliant, romantic or not varies from person to person. The time span is one year, and the two people get along with each other on two nights, which are all coincidences. I chatted endlessly all the way, shuttled through classic attractions in HK, watched the night scene in Victoria Harbour, had a drink in Lan Kwai Fong, met again on the Star Ferry, and picked souvenirs at the Temple Street Night Market...

The director seems to want to rely on the collision between the east and west coasts in the Far East cosmopolitan city to discuss many issues. The long series of dialogues cover the differences between China and the United States, dreams and reality, love at first sight and long-term love, indulgence and loyalty, but they are all to the point. It can be seen that her "killer" is to capture every audience who prefers Hong Kong with beautiful tones and down-to-earth scenes, and for me, it is exactly what she wants.

Yes, as a movie fan who grew up watching tvb and was immersed in Cantonese culture since childhood, this literary film with the street scene in Hong Kong as a "supporting role", I am very disappointed.

For a long time after I grew up, the focus of watching films was more towards Europe and the United States, and I was very obsessed with Hollywood directors such as Quentin, Finch, Nolan, and Spielberg. I found that even if I haven’t reached the limitless realm of reading films, only the HK element can touch the softness of my heart and won my heart.

He will eat a Hong Kong film every time and every time, and when he encounters a bad film, he will unknowingly put aside all the harsh film criticism standards every time, and tolerantly eat the spiritual opium of his growth period. Looking at the familiar and unfamiliar street scenes, listening to the dialogue with the same voice, perhaps the satisfaction comes from the so-called cultural resonance.

Central Mid-Levels Pedestrian Escalator, Hollywood Road, Duddell Street Stone Steps, Lan Kwai Fong, Chungking Mansions, Victoria Harbour Night View, Avenue of Stars, Star Ferry, Temple Street Night Market... I silently memorize the Hong Kong that I am familiar with in the movie District travel check-in point, looking forward to listening to Carousel's Into the Night in the unique neon twilight, feeling the feasting here. Or, take a taxi, look at the street scene outside the car window, go through the cross-sea tunnel to the other end, sneak into a music bar, order a Mojito, listen to the resident singing, and stay for the night.

The emotion of the protagonist of the movie is ignited in a dance. You and I have scruples, but you can enjoy the wine and music that night. I always thought that moment was beautiful.

As for the ending, I was very stunned at first. One second before, the two of them were staring at each other hesitantly in the back seat of the taxi. The next second, the ending song played, and I said: Huh? Is it over? Open ending?

But when I think about it, it was just right. If we go further, whether it is a romantic night or a long-term relationship, it will inevitably be vicissitudes of life. My Little Airport's ending theme also seems to hint at the director's orientation:

Maybe so
don't look for her
Isn't the end romantic enough?
You are so unwilling to her
If you can never leave her
you will be more afraid
Isn't it better now?

Over time, you and I are each other's best memories, the beautiful old days we once had.

ps: The title was messed up, and it was written that I suddenly thought of this lyric in "Wedding Invitation Street".

Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong quotes

  • Ruby: I've always been intrigued with expats.

    Josh: Yeah?

Ruby: Yeah. I mean, they always gave the impression that living abroad is so glamorous. But when my grandparents immigrated to the States from Hong Kong, their journey is anything but glamorous.

    Josh: You see that?

    Ruby: Yeah?

Josh: That's my office right there.

Ruby: It almost makes it worth being a banker.

Josh: All those lights on in the offices. It's 11:00 in a Friday night. Those are all people working. It isn't as glamorous as it looks.

    Ruby: Guess not.

  • Josh: There's something very wrong with your city when the only good thing you have going for it is the weather.
