Uncle Oshii, can you tell the story well without doing something mysterious?
The bland plot really isn't enough to hold up for two hours. The pictures that seemed to be foreshadowing were buried, and the burden was never shaken out, as if a long-brewed hiccup was stuck in the throat.
I don't care what profound meanings you have, the paleness of the main line is nothing.
