Today I introduce the Korean movie "Criminal City".
Film title 범죄도시 / Crime City / The Outlaws (2017), alias Crime City.
The story takes place in Seoul, South Korea. The "Black Dragon Gang" who smuggled over from Harbin quickly broke the sphere of influence of the local criminal gang and established their own sphere of influence by virtue of their ruthlessness.
"Black Dragon Gang" does not leave room for things, just like children do multiple-choice questions, "Black Dragon Gang" needs everything. As a result, the ecological environment of the local underworld suffered a serious deterioration, so the local underworld hated it. At the same time, the "Black Dragon Gang" has also seriously deteriorated the local public security environment. The workload of the police has skyrocketed, and the common people have been oppressed and bullied. Bai Dao also seems to completely eradicate this group of dangerous elements.
The small leader of the "Black Dragon Gang" is called Zhang Chen, who was originally just a small leader of a gang member in China. During the crackdown in China, his boss was arrested, the gangs fell apart, and the fish that slipped through the net fled abroad to avoid the limelight.
Some fled to North Korea, some fled to South Korea. Zhang Chen smuggled his two younger brothers to South Korea, where he planned to "start a business" and make "new achievements".
As a gangster, he is well aware of the truth that people are afraid of evil and evil. If he wants to take food from the hands of the local underworld, he must fight hard. The local gangsters had never seen this kind of battle before, and they instantly became soft, and those who didn't follow were thrown into the garbage dump.
On the whole, "Criminal City" feels very real, and has found a better balance between passion and ease. It will not show the bloody personal heroism without a brain, nor will it flow into the ragged meme of vulgar comedy.
At the same time, the rhythm of the movie is also well grasped, and there is no disconnect in the process of advancing the story. The whole film is very enthusiastic and does not make people feel boring and personal heroism, and occasionally adds a lot of laughs to ease the atmosphere very well. The whole story is completed in one go. From the rise to the collapse of the "Black Dragon Gang", the scene is clear, and the police's counterattack process has also changed from passive to active, step by step, well-founded.
The most authentic part of the film is that it does not place too much emphasis on individual heroism. Although the film was made with the help of the image of the tough South Korean Ma Dong-seok, it did not spend all the ink on Ma Dong-seok.
The performances of the supporting characters are also outstanding. The police captain, KTV boss Huang and other supporting characters are all outstanding. Each role has a different and clear division of labor. Everyone plays their roles well within their own responsibilities.
It's interesting to think about a little bastard who is not in the mainstream in China and becomes a local tyrant when he goes abroad.
Of course, Zhang Chen's "Black Dragon Gang" was doomed from the beginning. It makes sense that Zhang Chen could only be a gangster leader in his original place. Although he acted very cautiously and was careful not to reveal his faults, he only knew how to fight hard, but he forgot the reason not to fight with officials.
No one had taught him this principle when he was running, and he naturally couldn't understand this principle with his level. In an unfamiliar environment, being ruthless is the fastest way to establish prestige, but it is also the fastest way to destruction.
When he saw Ma Dongxi's arms that were thicker than his thighs, he still thought of resisting, but he forgot who was black and who was white, and even more who was the protagonist and who was the supporting role.
In the end, in the vast ocean of the people's war, this small group of criminals was wiped out, and the movie came to a relatively happy ending.
In the movie "Criminal City", I will not talk about whether it is ugly or not. Anyway, this movie should not be released in China.
The only downside is that the Chinese in the film is not very authentic, obviously a foreign accent. This is also a common problem in foreign films. You can spend a lot of effort to polish the script and performance, but you can't find an actor who can speak Chinese. After all, the film is not made for people who speak Chinese.
