A serious disconnect between the grand background and the vitality of the story

"Big Fish and Begonia" and "Rock and Roll Tibetan Mastiff" are interesting in terms of word formation. They are all unrelated things put together. The former seems to spell out a poetic feeling, while the latter shows a clumsy combination of local and foreign. It is said that it is a sincere work that someone and some people have accumulated for a long time. The former had to complain about the too obvious copycat "Spirited Away" after watching the trailer. The dubbing of Yun Society squeezed out a small theater to watch it in the poor filming, and the slightly old-fashioned stories and characters are full of interest and sincerity.
It is said that "Big Fish and Begonia" is based on "Xiaoyaoyou" and "Shan Hai Jing" as the background of the story. It takes a lot of thought to see the characters, but it seems too big and useless in the looming "Spirited Away". The imagery and tone of Japanese and eastern mythology and religion, but every detail, from Yubaba to small briquettes, are unique individuals with different psychology and personalities originally created by Hayao Miyazaki and Ghibli in the overall story structure. There are symbols of human beings, gods, ghosts, animals, plants and trees at various levels and personalities to form a three-dimensional system, which has self-sufficient rich meaning and philosophical meaning. But in "Big Fish", apart from the grander decorative shell, the inner spirit has neither the warmth or darkness of humanity, nor the philosophical depth or interest.
"Rock Tibetan Mastiff" is the product of Hollywood's industrial process and logic. Its spiritual support is based on a mature rocker's observation of the domestic music circle and a little bit of so-called "not forgetting the original intention", combined with Tibetan plateau customs and tribute to foreign classic rock , the contained childlike innocence and childlike interest increase the visibility. Limited by the original story blueprint and its far-fetched logic, the rhythm has been smooth, but the over-connection of the plot is still not natural enough, and the drama and freshness are lacking.
Looking back on "Spirited Away" or "Zootopia", in addition to the overall story structure, the smoothness and freshness of the advancement, the more memorable thing is the delicacy of every detail. These details are not only the delicacy of the environment scenes, but also the details of the characters' skins and clothing folds, which of course reflect the upgrading and grandeur of technology. But it is more about the characters who create atmosphere or create laughs in each environment, the vitality that comes alive in the local vividness, the love and presentation of life and nature, the taste of life and freedom itself. This is the secret of the childlike innocence and technicalism behind animation.

Big Fish & Begonia quotes

  • Lingpo: What brings you to the Island of Souls?

Chun: There's a soul I'm looking for: the soul of a human boy

Lingpo: What time was it he died?

Chun: It was two days before the wheat harvest.

Lingpo: You need to be sure of the date. Otherwise you're searching for a needle in a haystack. So many die every day.

Chun: I'm sure. It was my birthday.

Lingpo: I know what you're trying to do, girl, and it goes against the laws of nature!

Chun: I don't care. I've got to save him!

Lingpo: The punishment is harsh for those who defy nature, no matter who you are, so you *should* care.

Chun: But I owe him, for saving my life.

Lingpo: How very touching. I've been stuck here for 800 years, and I'm still not done paying penance for my sin!

    Chun: But you didn't...!

Lingpo: Don't interrupt! Let me tell you what real tragedy is. Meeting someone you care about so much you forget yourself and make a mistake. So then you go back and try to fix it and make things right again, and then you learn that fixing it's impossible.

    [chuckles]

Lingpo: We can never undo the wrongs we've done. This I know.

Chun: You're saying you won't help me?

Lingpo: I'm saying I pity you. Besides, resurrecting someone from the dead doesn't come cheap.

    Chun: What would it cost?

Lingpo: No less than a lovely girl's loveliest features: your eyes.

    Chun: [winces]

    Lingpo: [laughing] Now she's scared.

    [chuckles]

Lingpo: Don't want to give up your pretty eyes, eh? All right, I'll take half your life instead.

Chun: If that'll save him, take it.
