brutal poetry

I haven't read the original novel, so I don't plan to talk more about those controversial disputes. In my opinion, Jean-Jacques Arnaud is really a master of animal movies. The two wolf chase scenes in the play were filmed thrillingly, the frozen horses and the wolf who jumped off the cliff to commit suicide. Very cruel and poetic, the peaceful coexistence of humans and animals seems to be an eternal theme in the director's works. Unfortunately, this is not a purely wolf story. The special era background in the story and the thinking of the characters in that era are worthy of further exploration and study. However, after all, this is a large-scale production co-produced by China and France, and it must take into account the censorship system and commercial elements of the mainland at the same time. As a result, those sensitive elements can only pass by in a flash. The rest of the commonplace topics of ethnic integration and environmental protection can only be said to be quite satisfactory. The film's portrayal of the male protagonist as a paranoid, willful and petite animal lover is the biggest flaw. The nature of wolves is not to be tamed, not to be over-protected and kept in captivity, which the film does not handle well.
