The two movies I watched recently, I have some feelings, Jia Zhangke's "Apocalypse" and the Korean movie "The Defender".
Both are biographical stories with archetypal characters. Jia Zhangke tells about four low-level Chinese characters, and South Korea tells the inspirational story of former President Roh Moo-hyun. Although the times are different, to us it seems to be the present, and it runs through the film. The clues are all about violence.
Putting them together may seem far-fetched, but they connect exactly to answer the question of what to face in an age of violence?
In "Tian Destined", Jia Zhangke did not give an answer. He used line drawing to outline the outline of reality. The answer floated in the air and was powerless to give up. The four prototype characters Zhou Kehua, Hu Wenhai, Deng Yujiao, Foxconn's jumping workers, these low-level modern Characters either actively choose violence to kill for speed, or stubbornly insist on violence and live a life in the arena, or are forced to choose violence to redeem themselves, or give up violence and self-destruct; some people are fighting, some are running away, this is the era we live in , lonely beyond words, violence became their way of survival, and the last extremely tired young man ended everything with self-destruction.
"The Defender" is a movie based on Roh Moo-hyun. Those lines are so powerful. When you watch the movie, you may feel pain, because the violence from the system is internalized into adult self-control, and there is nowhere to hide under the iron curtain. It seems that It's the present, maybe you'll be lucky, it turns out that others have experienced that era earlier, and it seems that no one is born so rich.

"Apocalypse" and "The Defender" are no longer the same era, and interpret similar themes. Of course, Koreans have more freedom of speech, and that's why its content is one step closer, while Jia Zhangke can only describe it in white. For a period of reality, more thoughts were left in the air.
