The world is impermanent, and the most absurd thing is the fate of people, but they have kept that eternal feeling.
In my eyes, the movie "Return" is just such a movie about Lu Yanshi's gorgeous turn after going through the ups and downs and the heavy blow of fate, about a simple persistence and waiting in the face of adversity.
Different from the novel "Lu Yanshi", the film does not mention the flowery world before Lu Yanshi, and he is proud of the spring breeze, nor does it describe his painful life in the Northwest China for 20 years. The movie only focuses on how Lu Yanshi, despite his constant disappointment after his return, still remains loyal to Feng Wanyu and accompanies his wife who suffered from amnesia.
In fact, who of us has never been complacent, and who has never been proud of the spring breeze? Who of us has not been manipulated by fate, as if everything is going to leave us? More often, we betray and give up our emotions for our great future, like Dandan in the movie. More than once I have said to others, "Don't be stupid, it's not worth it." For the sake of our immediate interests, in order to be accepted and recognized by everyone, we can be mean, we can be ignorant of affection, and we can deny our six relatives.
But who of us came back like Lu Yanshi? Like Lu Yanshi's unremitting persistence and waiting for a relationship in the face of adversity. In the memories of many of us, insistence like Lu Yanshi's "silly X" is blank.
What the movie doesn't tell is the story of each of us, how each of us is played by fate.
The film tells a story about Lu Yanshi, a story about how to regain his dignity in the face of fate.
In the movie, Chen Daoming and Gong Li's performances are superb, expressing the changes in the characters' hearts keenly and accurately. For example, the scene of Chen Daoming playing the piano in the movie shows the different sorrows in the hearts of the two, the joy of reunion, and later Gong Li does not recognize Chen Daoming's excess, all of which are restrained, precise and just right. Come back, let the film return to the pure performance art, and return to a craft that requires decades of hard work.
The power of destiny, how to fight? May we spend our lives holding onto something worthless, even stupid.
