A film about a sad story, a sad story itself

It's a sad story, a home torn apart by the times.

Zhang Yimou couldn't be better at this kind of story about the Chinese people twenty or thirty years ago. Big-character posters, propaganda boards that keep up with the times, old-fashioned units, streets, public telephones, various cabinets at home, pots and pans, cups, bicycles, and lace back cushions on the sofa, all of which are very well restored.

Gong Li's performance is nothing to say, a woman who has culture and temperament, but is oppressed by life, has no sorrow or grief, nor does she pretend to be strong, there is no Korean drama to hold you in tears, and there is no mainland drama mother-in-law, that is that era. The epitome of many women with similar fates. When I watched it, I felt that Gong Li had to be this role, and Zhang Ziyi became a vase film for foreigners, Song Chunli became a domestic mother-in-law drama, and Cai Ming... um. In contrast, Chen Daoming's role is much simpler, a man who is suffering and owes his family. My daughter feels pretty good too. She dances professionally. The selfishness in the first half is annoying. In the second half, she wears a work cap and rides a bicycle, like a flower that won't wither.

The two scenes are particularly sighing: Lu Yanshi plays the piano, and Feng Wanyu stands behind her with tears in her eyes; after many years, Lu Yanshi holds a sign with her name, and sits next to Feng Wanyu, who is still eager for Lu Yanshi's return.

However, all this looks good, but it always feels a little thin. Feng Wanyu became the absolute protagonist, and Lu Yanshi was just a poor, infatuated man who couldn't see more. There are obviously too many stories to tell in the background of that era. There is no story of their past in "Return", there is no picture of Lu Yanshi during the labor reform, and even the past of the cadre Master Fang bullying Feng Wanyu has become obscure. The whole story is left with "Eraser in My Mind". This rotten Korean drama has become the backbone of the whole film, so that the distinct sense of the times is only branded on the pots and pans of the old house of the big character poster.

Doesn't Zhang Yimou, who has filmed "Alive", understand this? The answer is in the review opinion of the General Administration on the script of "Return": "Agree to shoot after modification".

pity. A film with a sad story, and a sad story itself.
