Science, life and love.

Look at the new Sherlock Holmes obsessed with the curly blessing, tall figure, thin face, prominent cheekbones, pale complexion, gray-green eyes. Sometimes sharp, wearing a dry smirk, sometimes exhilarating like a child. In my mind he is the best and only Sherlock Holmes in film and television. So I followed him to watch this Hawking.
This film may be said to be such a theme: science, life and love.
The first keyword is bound to be science. Unfortunately, I am a liberal arts student, and those words are like reading a book from heaven. I can only stare blankly at the subtitles in the large paragraphs of dialogue. Little is known about the development of science in the 19th century. Hawking's father said that physics was everything to him. He gave his whole life for physics. What he pursues is the truth, and even if he challenges authority, he will not back down or give in. Even if his hands were shaking and his fingers were unable to exert his strength, he still insisted on writing formulas all over the blackboard and questioning them in public. When he faced physics, his eyes lit up.
Then there is life. He was also a high-spirited young man until he found out that he was terminally ill. From health, slowly, life was swallowed bit by bit, and the limbs, spine, and mouth gradually became not like their own. I have to say I am sad to see him roll down the stairs in the theatre, to see him walk with difficulty, to see him practice holding his breath underwater, to see him turn the pages of a book with trembling, recalcitrant fingers. Everyone can only control their own destiny and can only watch the life or life of others. Some people can't even change their own destiny. Helplessly tight. As an audience, I forgot that I was outside the play. I even resented God, who has a genius head, and who has made such great contributions to mankind, why should I treat him like this and give him such a body. But on the other hand, with such a physical condition, he still keeps turning his brain and pursues the truth on the road of science, so what reason do other healthy and able-bodied people have not to live well?
Finally there is love. I don't think Jane is the heroine of this movie, maybe physics is, lol. She is more like a facet of a polyhedron, never the whole. Compared with the genius, she is just an ordinary woman, longing for love, longing for family, and longing for stability. I was really moved when she finally made the decision after hesitation to stay by his side and make him her husband. It's not hard to be attracted to someone whose brain is full of work, and maybe not even love. But staying together is. Deciding to stay with an ordinary person is not necessarily a simple decision, let alone this person is so special. He is a genius, his brain is spinning too fast, his heart is only physics, and most importantly, he will one day be unable to move because of muscle atrophy. With this background, one day he couldn't even give her a hug, a kiss. But she was still determined to be with this person. This means she will be alone and will have to take care of him. It is gratifying that such a strong woman has taken on this responsibility. When he told the driver that Trinity College couldn't speak clearly and couldn't write, and she came from a distance to say what he wanted to say, that was enough.

The movie is only 88 minutes long, which is relatively short compared to recent movies. From the point of view of the average audience, this is not a great movie. It contains too much relatively professional stuff that makes it hard to understand. For example, I can't understand what it means to put in the clips of those two old men giving TV interviews from time to time. It doesn't make it easy to understand. And Hawking's part about science isn't deep enough to be impressive.
However, what drove me to write a long review for the first time was BC's smile. Forgive me I can only say BC here. Unlike Sherlock's sarcastic or fake smile, in this movie, BC's smile is very, very beautiful. Brilliant, innocent, unabashed, pure, healing. Laughing like that, it seemed like a smile that came from the bottom of my heart, making people feel warm and grateful. There was an impressive scene where he couldn't command his fingers upstairs, he was so annoyed that he even cried, but he still gave the brightest smile when he came downstairs to face Jane and Penrose.

I believe that Hawking, on the road of his life, has always been smiling.

Hawking quotes

  • [last lines]

Stephen Hawking: Can you hear me? Can you hear me? Can you hear me?

  • Stephen Hawking: I believe in the possible. I believe small though we are, insignificant we may be, we can reach a full understanding of the universe. You were right, when you said you felt small looking up at all that out there. We are very, very small, but we are profoundly capable of very, very big things.
