From this point of view, what Otomo Keishi wants to convey is that violence and bloodshed cannot solve any problems, and only by treating each other sincerely and using love can truly resolve disputes.

What's more worth noting is that when Yuan roared and rushed towards Jian Xin with the dagger, Jian Xin did not dodge, but let Yuan plunge into his chest. This more clearly conveys the attitude that the person who made the mistake must be held responsible for the previous mistake. On the basis of such a value that the film wants to convey as a whole, it is really difficult to interpret the background introduction of Otomo Kaishi who was loyal to historical facts in the early days.

This principle is more suitable for "The End of the Legend". Zhi Zhixiong brought disaster to the world, and he did more evil first, so Jian Xin went to other people's nest to make a fuss, and directly gave him a nest.

But is Kenshin in "Human Punishment" to fight back and punish evil? In my opinion, it is closer to one person doing things alone, and atonement for their previous actions.

Because a significant difference between the two films is that the final battle of "The End of the Legend" was jointly planned by Kenshin and the protagonist group. In "Ren Zhu", Jian Xin was alone and went straight in, without any connection or complicity with the protagonist group at all.

This makes the final battle of a completely different nature compared to "The End of the Legend". Going back to the previous logic, in order for Otomo Keishi's view of carrying private goods to be established, then the protagonist group must have a clear conscience and be pure and perfect victims. In this way, the so-called self-defense counter-attack theory can be established.

But in "Ren Punishment", it is obvious that Jian Xin felt that he was at fault first. In fact, in the final battle, Kenshin also said "I'm sorry to you" to Yukino Yuki. So this has become a story in which the protagonist made a mistake first, causing others to counterattack, and finally reconciled through love. If you want to use this logic to set the so-called whitewashing theory, then the first problem is that Otomo Keishi admitted that Japan was at fault first.
