At the beginning of the movie, Li Xuejian's harsh voice and rich facial expressions made me think that I had read the wrong movie. Is this the Qin Shihuang Yingzheng who ruled the world? Is this "Eternal Emperor"? Why is he so moody and unsteady? Did the director choose the wrong character or did the actor act wrong? This kind of King Qin is different from what he has seen on the screen in the past, and it even makes most people uncomfortable.
We have no intention to discuss the content of the historical plot in the play. What I want to think about is why Chen Kaige let Li Xuejian create such a moody, majestic and inferior Qin Wang Yingzheng.
Qin Wang Yingzheng Chongling ascended the throne, not from a wealthy background. His father Ying Yiren was exiled to Zhao as a hostage, while Lu Buwei seems to have made the most successful venture capital investment in history, giving Zhao Ji to Ying Yiren as his wife and giving birth to Ying Zheng.
According to historical records, although Ying Zheng was a native of Qin, he was born in Zhao State for political reasons and lived in Zhao State as a child. Ordinary people living in other countries were already servile enough, not to mention the descendants of the royal family who were held hostage by others. Ying Zheng was born at the end of the "Battle of Changping" between Qin and Zhao. Zhao suffered heavy losses, and naturally he was not polite to Ying Zheng's family, so his life was very difficult.
After Ying Zheng ascended the throne, because of his young age, his mother, Empress Zhao Ji, served as the regent, and at the same time, the venture capitalist Lu Buwei was beside him as the regent. In history, it is not uncommon for a young emperor to ascend to the throne, and it is not uncommon for his relatives and officials to intervene in politics. But the Qin Dynasty is too far away from us, the emperor is the first emperor, and the empress dowager is also the first "emperor empress dowager" in history.
