Criminals are like empty containers into which different people have different positions. Human life is chosen from birth. I feel that Hirokazu Kore-eda likes this statement very much, because he always tells everyone how unbearable life is and how ugly human nature is. So we will think.

Talking about the structure of the story, each analysis of Sanyu can be divided into different stages. From the beginning, Sanyu pleaded guilty for fear of the death penalty, to revealing that he had conspired with the deceased's wife to murder, and finally pleaded not guilty. With the clues he revealed every time, the story gradually brought out his relationship with Saki, and the relationship between Saki and his family, and also advanced the truth of the matter. This narrative method is prone to sensory fatigue, because the audience has to concentrate on what he says is true and what is false. But on the other hand, he achieves a sense of suspense and layering, allowing the audience to enter the whirlpool of thinking.
Talk about the philosophical question in it, "If you can choose, can people choose not to be born?" This question has been running through the entire film. Whether it is Misumi, Sakie or Shigemori; they all face problems with themselves and their families: disability, crime, harm, choice. Everyone is alluding to each other, and there is an invisible connection. Extract the common points of the three people and develop it into a philosophical issue, which is closely integrated. This shows the director's skill if valuable storytelling.
To be honest, I feel that this movie is not quite like the perception that Hirokazu Koeda has always given the audience, analyzing family relationships. More is to express his philosophical value.
After watching it for the second time, this movie still makes people think.
