Lascia ch'io pianga - let my tears flow

Although World War II is long gone, it always leaves an indelible memory for future generations. Beyond the big figures and big events in the big era, the stories of individuals in a specific era background are even more embarrassing.

I especially like the background music at the beginning of the film, a slow soprano singing with a hint of religion, from the aria from Handel's opera "Rinaldo", Lascia Ch'io Pianga "Let My Tears Flow". This sets the tone and theme of the whole film, which is destined to be a tragedy about sex and love.

Lascia

ch'io pianga

(Lascia La Spina)

(Cecilia Bartoli - Live in Italy)

Armida, dispietata, colla forza d'alissa rapimmial caro

Ciel di miei contenti, e qui conduolo eterno

riva mi tiene in tormento d'inferno.

Signor! Ah! perpietà, lascia mi piangere.

Lascia ch'io pianga, la dura sorte! E che sospiri, la libertà!

Il duol infranga queste ritorte, de' miei martiri, sol per pietà,

si, de' mier martiri, sol perpietà!

Alameda, you threw me to the ground from happy heaven,

Suffering like hell! God! Let me cry!

Let me weep bitterly for this tragic fate! Let me sigh for the longing for freedom!

If only out of sympathy for my distress, let grief cut the cords of pain for mercy.
