Appreciation of the movie "Highland War"
The long singing voice of the old turntable floated in the streets, and people took to the streets to hold banners to express their desire for national reunification. But everything is lazy. During the Panmunjom negotiations, the ownership of the Ailu Heights directly affected the delineation of the ceasefire line. In order to obtain more favorable results, a new round of bloody competition was launched around the Ailu Heights. At this time, the captain of the Korean Crocodile Squadron on the front line was shot by his own pistols. At the same time, the family letters of the soldiers of the Northern People's Army were secretly sent by the Korean side. Accompany the new captain to the Crocodile Squadron.
The narrative of the film unfolds from Jiang Enbiao's perspective.
After the first intense Highland battle in the film, Confederate troops captured the Highlands. Kim Soo Hyuk and others were drinking and celebrating in Cave No. 14, when they were discovered by Jiang Enbiao, and the two sides faced each other with guns. Kim Soo Hyuk mentioned the reason: because the highland was occupied by both sides in turn, thinking that they would come back later, they wrapped socks, clothes, chocolates from the Yankees and other luggage and buried them in Cave 14. Unexpectedly, when I came back, I only found that everything inside was gone, leaving a pit of excrement. There was also a letter on top that said, "The chocolate is delicious, the cigarette is good, the socks are comfortable." They were so mad that they did not plant a mine in the pit, but buried the letter full of swear words. go back. As usual, one day when the high ground was recaptured, they found a bottle of wine in the pit, and Kim Soo Hyuk ordered his accomplices to throw it away. However, his subordinates took a sip when they felt that death was worth it, and then everyone scrambled to grab the drink. There was also a letter under the bottle that the Northern Army wanted to send to the family. Kim Soo Hyuk sent the letter. In the future, Kim Soo Hyuk and others often placed cigarettes in the pit, and the other party was alcohol and cigarettes.
This is the answer to the first doubt. However, the fact that the captain of the Crocodile Squadron was killed by the pistol used by the Ministry of Defense commander still did not yield an answer that Kang Eun-pyo thought was reasonable. Kim Soo Hyuk called him a deserter from the war and committed suicide.
One evening, Jiang Enbiao came to the river to investigate. The riverbanks are covered with snow, and the river surface is mostly frozen and sickly. He met a girl by the river, probably from the north, and Jiang Enbiao didn't answer him. Jiang Enbiao gave her a piece of chocolate and told her not to come again. The color used in many lyrical pictures in the film is almost similar to that of black and white films, which is also one of the characteristics of the film. Comedies are often more high-profile, while tragedies or melodramas are often blunt. (1) The tones of black, white and gray make it easier to calm down.
The highlands were occupied by turns. Once, Kim Soo Hyuk and the others returned to the cave again. There was a photo in the pitted letter. In the photo, a woman named Cha Tae Kyung was very beautiful. Kim Soo Hyuk told Jiang Eun Biao that he would go to her as his wife after the truce. And this woman was the one Jiang Enbiao met by the river that day. There is also a German-made sunglasses in the pit, which Jin Xiuhe gave to the youngest Nan Chengzhi.
It is reported that the Northern Army built an attack base on the Ailu Heights, and none of the personnel sent by the search team to Jiajia Peak came back, and they were likely to be sniped in "two seconds". "Two Seconds" is a powerful sniper of the Northern Army. People die first, and gunshots are heard after two seconds. Kim Soo-hyuk took ten soldiers to investigate. Just when he was resting, Nam Seung-chi in the team received a sniper, but he only hit his limbs. The others stayed on their stomachs and didn't shoot Nan Chengzhi directly for "two seconds", in order to lure others to save him. "Two Seconds" saw in the telescope the sunglasses that were placed in the pit that day. In the shot, she loosens the wrench. However, gunshots were still heard. Just when the last bullet killed Nan Chengzhi, Kim Soo Hyuk discovered the location of "Two Seconds" and let the gunner bomb the hillside. They searched again, but found no body. Jiang Enbiao met on the road. After some punches, Jiang Enbiao aimed his gun at her, turned his head, and found that this person was the woman he met by the river that evening.
Jiang Eun Biao did not shoot.
He blamed Kim Soo Hyuk for killing Nan Chengzhi. Kim Soo Hyuk said, "You don't know what war is at all." One soldier had mental problems and injured Kim Soo Hyuk's younger brother, Shin Il Young. Shin Il-young, who was lying on the couch, had a wound on his back, but he could not feel any pain. He was poisoned by morphine every day. Kang Eun-pyo asked what was going on, and Kim Soo-hyuk talked about what happened in Pohang. The southern army retreated in Pohang, but the ship could not hold all the retreating soldiers, the lock was closed, and many abandoned soldiers still held on to the railings of the ship. Shin Il-young screamed like a madman, and fired a machine gun to shoot at his comrade. And this is the basis for the film's narrative.
In the last battle of Ailu Heights, the order given by the division commander was unfavorable to the unit. Jin Xiuhe shot him on the spot, and then he commanded the battle according to the military law. However, Jiang Eunbiao pointed a gun at Kim Soo Hyuk, "According to the military law, I will execute you." Jin Soo Hyuk said, "If you execute me, you can lead the brothers to escape, then as soon as possible."
On the way to escape, he encountered "two seconds" again. This time, Kim Soo Hyuk was shot, but he also found the "two seconds" position. However, in the telescope, he saw that the other party was Cha Tae Kyung, the woman in the photo, and he did not buckle the wrench. Before dying, Kim Soo Hyuk said to Jiang Eun Biao, "Sometimes, he thinks that he still has 'two seconds' like thousands of Nan Chengzhi, who have already died. They killed so many people and should go to hell. The place is more hell than the battlefield."
Just as Cha Tae-kyung and the others were enjoying the beer they left in the cave, the truce was announced. Jiang Eun Biao brought Kim Soo Hyuk's body back to the company. The teammate cried, "Why can't he survive another day."
There are several changes in attitude in the film. Jiang Enbiao first walked into the Crocodile Squadron with a skeptical attitude. When he saw the scene in the cave, he thought it was Kim Soo Hyuk who was fornicating with the CCP army. Secondly, for the death of Nam Chengzhi, he also blamed Kim Soo Hyuk, until Kim Soo Hyuk finally said what happened in Pohang. Right and wrong, in the course of the war, so hard to say. Kim Soo Hyuk killed the commander, and he aimed his gun at Kim Soo Hyuk, which was the focus of the conflict. He killed him at that time just because he was unable to rescue more friendly troops. Just when Kim Soo Hyuk said, "I don't know if the bullets from the Disk Team or the People's Army came first", the bullet hit Kim for "two seconds". Jiang Enbiao desperately tried to save him, but he could only scream frantically. The cry swayed in the mountains, as if it was exhausted, but it was so helpless. So far, Jiang Enbiao has had many emotional changes. Doubt at first has turned to grief over the loss of a friend. Turning points not only convey insights, they also create emotional momentum. (2) Jiang Jiang carried Kim's body back to the company, and Shin Il-young was expressionless and was about to take morphine, but Jiang stopped him. In contrast to his choked sobbing, the desolate ding dong sound of the piano also seemed rigid and indifferent. However, the sound of the piano was flowing on its own, it was very quiet at this moment, and it was especially touching.
At the end of the second act, the southern army was playing in the water to celebrate the armistice. They met Cha Tae-kyung and they passed by. The two sides faced each other with guns. However, Shin Il-young said to the other party, "Happy armistice." Jiang Eun-biao handed a photo to the car. Tai Jing. It was the photo that Cha Tae-kyung left in the cave at that time. However, it is not the pure black and white of the past. The photo has a hole where a bullet went through, blood is dripping from the back of the photo, and "Kim Soo Hyuk" is written in the lower right corner. Cha Tae-kyung didn't say a word, only frowned slightly. The movie has too many details like this. Emotions are not conveyed through direct expression. Details are a better means of film teaser. A good movie always contains a lot of good details. It seems to be just a simple photo, passed from Cha Tae Kyung to Kim Soo Hyuk, and now it is back in the driver's hands with the color of blood. It is not clear whether it carries friendship, love, or hostility. As Heraclitus said: Good and evil are one and the same. (2)
The last scene of the film opens, in the complex joy of everyone. The superiors read the armistice. According to the agreement, however, the armistice came into effect after 12 hours, during which time the southern army would launch a massive attack on the front. The two ends of the ridge were less than 100 meters apart. In the thick fog, the troops on both sides wept and sang a common folk song. However, the bombardment of artillery ignited the last 12 hours of fighting. They are no longer fighting the enemy, they are fighting the enemy.
In the end, Jiang Enbiao reunited with the enemy's troop leader in the cave. They listened to the repeated repetition of "According to the agreement, stop all force," drinking alcohol and only laughing. Jiang Enbiao walked out of the cave, and the camera got farther and farther as he walked, stepping over the corpses all over the hills, as if to say that everything humans do is so boring and ridiculous.
