The movie is scary, no doubt about it. Watching IT without blinking, I was scared and pressed pause several times.
But this film is not one or two levels of IT lower in connotation. In my eyes, horror movies like this are scary for the sake of horror. Although they are qualified horror movies, they are really qualified and not bad. But it's far from being a good horror movie. In addition to terror, it also includes some content such as people's hearts, but it does not express deeply. And most of the horror is jump scares.
On filming...it's not really to my liking. The thriller I like comes from the whole movie viewing experience, including the suspense on the plot, the soundtrack... The pseudo-documentary style of this one makes it lose the integrity of the soundtrack and part of the plot (for the importance of the soundtrack, see "Moonlight Panic" "). In general, "Kunchiyan" is a qualified horror film, but it cannot be a suspense film, nor can it compete with horror films with rich themes such as IT.
