The Diary of Rabe
In 1937, Rabe, the head of Siemens Nanjing branch, lived in Nanjing, the capital of China at the time.
One day, he received a notice from the German headquarters that he would go back to the Berlin headquarters.
Rabe has lived in China for more than 20 years. He loves China and it is difficult to cut off the factory that he has operated for many years.
At his farewell feast, the Japanese bombed the city of Nanjing,
When the panic happened, Rabe resolutely opened the door of the company,
Covering his Chinese employees with Nazi flags and providing them with refuge.
Early the next morning, the fire was extinguished,
A German diplomat mentioned that there is a safe zone in Shanghai that can protect the common people .
So someone proposed to build a safe zone in Nanjing and nominated Rabe as chairman.
In fact, Rabe wanted to leave Nanjing and return to Germany the next day ;
But at the moment he decided to stay and got down to work right away.
On the other side, the Japanese army brutally slaughtered the city of Nanjing. They tortured prisoners of war and slaughtered the people.
As if the devil wants to raze the city of Nanjing to the ground.
Once, Rabe went to negotiate with the Japanese army to complain about their brutality and disregard for the safe zone,
But Rabe's driver was brutally killed by the Japanese.
Rabe saved the lives of 20 prisoners of war in exchange for the driver's death.
After that, when the Japanese imperialist army brutally vented and carried out atrocities on the Chinese people,
Rabe and his comrades fought with the Japanese army wisely and bravely,
It is difficult to provide security for the people of Nanjing, and hundreds of thousands of people pour into the security zone.
The Japanese army is still killing and maiming the people of Nanjing, and plans to destroy the safe area in charge of Rabe,
Resupply of the safe zone is also getting tougher.
But Rabe did not flinch, he guarded the people in the safe area as if he were dying,
It was not until the ambassadors of various countries returned to Nanjing, and until the Japanese army accepted the existence of the safe zone, that Rabe decided to leave.
Rabe came to China to work in 1909. He lived in China for 30 years.
He has contacts with all levels of Chinese society.
When the ancient city of Jinling fell into a black sea of terror , Rabe used his Nazi identity to take in more than 600 Chinese refugees in his residence.
In the safety zone of less than 4 square kilometers under his responsibility , he and more than a dozen foreigners under his leadership,
It not only saved the lives of more than 200,000 Chinese people , but also defended the truth and dignity of human beings .
During this period, he wrote "Rabe's Diary" in the small yard he rented .
In the spring of 1938, after returning to Germany, Rabe delivered a speech exposing the crazy atrocities of the Japanese army in Nanjing .
After World War II, Rabe was treated unfairly again because of his Nazi identity .
In his most depressed days, the people of Nanjing raised thousands of dollars for him to let him spend his old age in peace .
Sending food for him , Rabe died of a stroke in Berlin in 1950.
It was not until more than half a century later that Rabe came to us like a triumphant hero from the fog of history.
This film is based on Rabe's "Rabe's Diary" . Through this Chinese version of the legendary story of "Schindler" , it reproduces the thrilling and tragic memory of Nanjing .
