If you are an ordinary person with a little bit of status, like John, who was given a gold medal for immunity from death by the government at the end of the day, and this gold medal is also xenophobic, are you willing to take someone else to flee?
In the movie, we met good bad guys (the shop robbers who let the child’s mother and child off) and bad good guys (couples who were willing to let the mother and the child ride a ride but took the child to take the opportunity in the middle of life), and met I got to the worse bad guys (the fugitive with the wristband), and met better good guys (all the kind people who helped John's family escape)
In fact, we can’t just judge by good or bad here. In the face of disasters, in such an abnormal environment, the desire for life, the fear of the unknown, everything that anyone does should be understood as normal and possible. Unreasonable but very reasonable.
Just like this environmental specificity, the transformation of human nature is inevitable. If John refused to bring his neighbors to flee with him before, it was a kind of unkind and unsympathetic behavior. Later, when he faced the burning car and took the initiative to rescue the driver inside, he was the first to think of seeing the pilot in the plane crash. It embodies the change of good, from self-interest to altruism.
But it may also be a change to evil, especially if the "unfortunate" has lived long enough and the resources are extremely limited.
This change is also unreasonable but reasonable.
Every time I watch a doomsday movie, I always want to ask those close to me if we encounter this kind of disaster, do we plan to take me to escape, or we will stay at home and spend the last days together.
But think about it carefully, this kind of test is actually meaningless, because no one knows what people will become at that time, and may even be inextricably related to the disasters encountered at that time, earthquakes, floods, Comets hit the earth, or zombies attacked the city.
And why we are moved by the people who help others in the movie and the people who perform their duties, because this kind of behavior that is usually praised by people can still be done in the face of disaster, which shows how rare it is. For this kindness, we can only face it with gratitude in the process of fleeing with the John family along with the plot.
