Coming to this rough world, what is your wish? Is it possible to fulfill one's wishes by enjoying the riches and splendor? Under the blue sky and bright moon, I meditated carefully, everything in the world was like another dream in that spring dream. Coming to this rough world, what is your wish? Is it possible to fulfill one's wishes by enjoying the riches and splendor? Are you panicking while chatting and laughing, or sinking in wine, sex and wealth. If you can forget everything in the world, will you be able to fulfill your wish?

This is the ending song "Song of Hope" from the movie "Battleship Island"

Directed by director Liu Chengwan, the previous works include "Veteran"; the film is a historical war movie starring Huang Zhengmin, Su Zhixie, Song Zhongji, Li Zhenxian, etc. The total production cost is as high as 30 billion won (about 170 million RMB). The film takes Hashima (Battleship Island) as the main stage and is based on the real historical events of the Koreans being forced to work on Hashima. It tells the story of the survival of the Hashima workers at the end of World War II.

Because of Huang Zhengmin, I watched "Battleship Island" for him, although it was a little late.

At the beginning of the film, the three teenagers in black and white are taking advantage of the night to leave the island, and they are warned: "Don't worry about the people around you, if you only think about yourself, you must go out alive, as long as you escape to Nagasaki alive, you will be safe. A beautiful new world is waiting for you." Unfortunately, only two of them escaped and jumped into the sea. A fishing net was waiting for them outside, and the two teenagers were drowned by the sea water.

Lee Sun-woo, played by Hwang Jung-min, is a band leader who leads seven band brothers and his daughter to play for a dinner party. Because of hooking up with a senior official's wife and playing banned jazz music, he has to leave North Korea and take his brothers and daughter with him. Going to Japan to dig for gold, when the group came to Japan, Li Shanyu took the letter of recommendation written to go to Shimura-kun to the Japanese officer, but in a panic, he saw that all the discarded recommendation letters on the ground were written with Shimura-kun, and the group was like this. Confusedly, he was "caught piglets".

After that, they were loaded onto the train again and went out to sea to the island that was more terrifying than hell. From the moment they disembarked, they were greeted by a welcome beating all the way, accompanied by cheerful radio music and bright sunshine. They walked into this hell.

warship island

Hashima is an island attached to the city of Nagasaki, Japan. It is called Gunkanjima because it looks like a warship. There are abundant coal mines on the island. During World War II, the Japanese government forced Chinese and Korean laborers to mine on Hashima, and were taken with them. The people who came here were forced to mine coal mines 1,000 meters under the sea and the temperature was as high as 40 degrees. According to information released by Japan after the war, nearly 40,000 people were forcibly recruited to Japan during World War II, resulting in more than 2,100 deaths, so Hashima is also known as "Ghost Island".

Li Shanyu, a commoner in the market, is always stalking and flirting with women in order to make a living, and he does not forget to flirt with women when he performs with his daughter, but he regards his daughter Suhie as more important than his own life. From the beginning to the end of the film, he always regarded himself and his daughter as more important than anything else, without any spiritual and personality sublimation, real and not contrived. He is the representative of the people at the bottom of the country and the vast majority of the laborers on the island.

When he was dying, he struggled to apologize to his daughter. The island experienced a life-long torture of a kind-hearted father.

Daughter Su Hime, regardless of her young age, has followed such a father since she was a child. She has more experience than some adults. She was about to be used as a comfort woman. She raised her hands at the banquet and shouted: "Long live the Emperor!" His ensemble won the chance to play.

Choi Qixing and Wu Last Nian: The gang leader and prostitute who have experienced countless hardships in the capital of North Korea. Cui Qixing, who is not afraid of the sky and the earth, can't see the infighting of the Koreans on the island. After he became a supervisor, he felt that he could be a good boss, but soon he found that his power was only useful to the Koreans, and kept saying "Koreans". The underworld elder brother under the banner of "Should not oppress the Koreans" has gradually become another oppressor. After experiencing the torture of the concentration camp and the claws of the comfort station, Wu last year, who escaped from birth, entered another devil's cave again, but still could not escape the fate of being a comfort woman. The two were unwilling to resist oppression, and their mutual affection was revealed in the bullet that was hit.

Park Wuying and Yin Xuezhe, one of them was ordered to infiltrate the Korean Liberation Army. When they discovered the conspiracy of the rescued big man Yin Xuezhe and the Japanese, they chose to take all the trapped people to escape. And Yin Xuezhe is a very complicated character, which further proves that a so-called leader in the torrent of history has little effect.

The group of laborers on the island: Under the oppression of the Japanese, you can see all kinds of Koreans flattering, weak, rebellious, and betrayal. It is said that we Chinese have some inferiority. In fact, in the face of backwardness and war, all ethnic groups are the same, and nothing is born.

Although the ending was revised, a boat of people escaped. They watched the atomic bomb dropped by the US military on Nagasaki. It was the director and screenwriter who couldn't bear to hope to be wiped out. In history, after the atomic bomb, many workers were killed by the Japanese army. Forced to go to the island, blood transfusion for Nagasaki city destroyed by atomic bomb, a large number of workers died tragically due to nuclear radiation.

The eyes of Su Hime looking at the explosion of the atomic bomb changed from clear to deep despair. The brand of harm brought to the people by the civil war between China, Japan and South Korea cannot be erased, and it is deeply embedded in our memory like a bayonet.

Outside of the movie, the true history of Gunkanjima should be known to more people.

After the start of World War II, the Japanese army forced more than 40,000 Chinese and Koreans to serve as laborers in Japan, and 3,765 of them were assigned to Mitsubishi Corporation. They were escorted onto ships and sent to Gunkanjima day and night. Mining coal. In addition to the Chinese compatriots, many North Korean laborers were also sent to the island, but Japan felt that there were not enough workers, and actually called the warship island a paradise in the media, deceiving people who did not know it to go there. Therefore, there were not only prisoners of war among the laborers, but also There are school teachers, businessmen, and more ordinary farmers who have been kidnapped. Workers were continuously sent to the island. The population of Gunkanjima was as high as 1,391 per hectare. The population density was 9 times that of Tokyo at one time, and it became the place with the highest population density in the world at that time. However, in this so-called paradise, the laborers began their most tragic fate.

By the end of World War II, a total of 722 Chinese laborers (Mitsubishi Corporation) and 1,442 Korean laborers (Korean officials) were tortured to death on Gunkanjima.

From the start of coal mining in September 1890, to the Sino-Japanese War in 1937, to the full-scale outbreak of the Pacific War, Gunkanjima, which had a huge impact on the Japanese military industry, was abandoned in January 1974 under Japan's new energy policy in the 1970s. In 2015, Gunkanjima was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Meiji Industrial Revolution in Japan.

After Japan's application to the World Heritage List, Foreign Minister Fumi Kishida said shamelessly: "Forcing laborers to work in harsh conditions does not mean forced labor." Under this combination of internal and external packaging, the history of Gunkanjima disappeared, and tourists flocked to it.

Until today, the Japanese government has not fulfilled the relevant advice of UNESCO regarding historical facts, including forced expropriation.

On our side, except for a few new media reports, few people mention it, and the domestic travel website is even packaged as a tourist attraction on Warship Island. Although the movie "Battleship Island" did not mention the Chinese, we should still thank the director for filming this history for us so that we can see it.
