Roy's decision

Roy Mustang, Da Zuo, national alchemist, "the running dog of the army", a power madman who is bent on climbing in the eyes of everyone. It was him who pulled the Edair brothers into the army, who had broken themselves in order to forge their mothers, and became national alchemists and so-called "stray dogs of the army" like him.

Unlike Ed, who is the "Fullmetal Alchemist", Roy was awarded the title of "Alchemist of Flame"-his stunt is to make a great fire with a snap of his fingers. The principle is naturally equivalent material exchange, relying on gloves made of special fabrics to adjust the concentration of oxygen in the air while waving the arms, and then create amazing explosive power.

It's just that this angry family has a gloomy and forbearing heart. That original young man, with the belief or imagination of either serving the country or learning art, eventually became a national alchemist, but he didn't want to be sent to the city as a tool of murder by the state. Military orders are like a mountain, not to mention that once you are on the battlefield, you will live and die. Young people killed many innocent citizens, killed army doctors who rescued both sides regardless of their position, and killed children who had never used a gun but had to use it to defend themselves. . In the appalling massacre, he survived "shamefully".

The so-called "war" finally ended in the complete victory of the country and the complete defeat of the other nation. At the same time, Roy also fell into unprecedented frustration and depression. My friend Hughes brought the Apple pie to visit and saw Roy with a tired face and a shaggy face. The room was filled with paintings, filled with various substances and potions, and a gun was placed on the table in the center of the room.

"After all, I still haven't been able to risk my life to experiment. I'm just such a person." Roy was guilty and frustrated. He finally didn't have the courage to step into the restricted area of human refining to retrieve the lives that had been ruined in his hands. However, he also saw his heart clearly in the long and tragic struggle. So, he made a decision-to become president and change the country's system.

This decision does not need that direct and painful price, it needs time and determination to fight against time. From then on, a man named Roy Mustang began to work hard in the military department and at the same time went straight up. In order to reach the final throne, his hands were stained with blood again, and he became an unscrupulous army running dog in the eyes of more people. Only Hughes and Lisa, who were living and dying, would understand the pain and struggle behind these forbearance.

Since choosing this path, Roy has no room to look back, especially when his best friend Hughes, who is dedicated to supporting him, has taken his life for it. In a gambling game, when wealth and life are all being staked, where is there room to turn around? However, these are not the most terrifying. The terrible thing is that the things that make you ruined your family and diligently are only found out in the end that they are nothing but emptiness.

Roy embarked on an official career, and he was thinking of defeating the "presidency". In the end, it was confirmed that he was a man-made human being mixed with humans. The slaughter of the city back then was to use the life of the entire city to refine something called the "Sage's Stone" so that these artificial people could become real people. Suddenly, all previous efforts have become meaningless, because the final outcome is already outside the "rules".

However, all this is only the secret of a few people. For others, the president is still the president. So, it's time for Roy to make a decision again:

choose one, let it go and kill the humanoid, but since then he is charged with assassinating the president, and all his glory and title have been abandoned.
Option two, continue to seek room for improvement within the rules, waiting for others to clean up these scum, and you can take advantage of the gap of power to enter a high position and become a real president.

In the process of pursuing power, we often forget why we embarked on the journey in the first place, and then go in another direction at the next fork in the road. Of the two choices, the former is a narrow road, and the latter is a smooth road. Roy chose the narrow road because he remembers the original decision. In other words, when the second massacre was about to take place, Roy had no choice in the so-called choice.

Roy eventually cleaned up the so-called "big president" with his own hands, at the cost of a perhaps not big but very handsome eye. In addition, he no longer has his place in the new government. Naturally, there is also a positive result, that is, he can finally sleep peacefully on the sickbed, tasting the apples delivered by his beloved, and calmly looking at each other and loving each other.

I often look back at one of the scenes at the end of the film. Roy, dressed in casual clothes, leaned on a cane and smiled to see Lisa linger in front of the fruit stand. This kind of warmth after drifting away often makes me feel a deep sadness. Good things are always so short, even if it is an ending that can end, it still cannot make people truly relieved, and people believe that life can go on like this forever, without changing, without having to face difficult decisions.
