Xihe's life

The poor and miserable woman
Kenji Mizoguchi is very kind, and the movie always gives Xihe dignity, humble dignity.
Mizoguchi Kenji reminds me of
the finale of Guan Jinpeng's movie, where women help women, albeit humble. Despite working unpopular jobs, despite being a prostitute.
"We can only help ourselves. It's easier to die than to live."
But prostitutes also have dignity.
Finally, a customer came, and he was an old man who used to laugh at her.
She left like a madman, leaving behind the sneers of men.

The director gave a good ending. In reality, women are often miserable to the point of death.

Is it really kind? Maybe, sometimes, life is better than death.
(Kinyo Tanaka played very well.)

Or, only Buddha would take her in selflessly.

The picture at the end of this film reminds me of the Japanese animation movie "Book of the Dead" that I have seen.

[4-] The movie that said the heroine had a rough life reminded me of "Romantic Flowers". This book is not only about the struggles of finding true love, but in this context, it criticizes the low status of women to the point that they are not only oppressed by the feudal society, but also that their family members control these rules of class and etiquette. The best thing to look at is the autonomy of one's own emotions, of the body, and the dignity that is fiercely defended.

On June 26, 1940, at the Kyoto Railway Station, the train slowly entered the platform. Kenji Mizoguchi had a straight suit, straightened his waist, and stood solemnly on the platform. He rarely greeted the actor Tanaka Kinyo who came from Tokyo in person. This is the first time the two have met.

The Life of Oharu quotes

  • Katsunosuke: Lady Oharu, a human being - no, woman - can only be happy if she marries for love. Rank and money don't mean happiness.
