This film tells about the ups and downs of Xi He's life in the patriarchal society. How Xi He sinks into the cage constructed by patriarchy step by step and cannot get out. The sequence of the plot is as follows:
1. As a noble maid, Nishizuru falls in love with the lower-level samurai Katsunosuke. Due to their identities, the two are separated by yin and yang.
2. Xi He was recruited as the lord's concubine, gave birth to an offspring, and was beaten back to the house because of the jealousy of the lord's original spouse.
3. His biological father sold Xihe to Shimabara as a prostitute. Due to Xihe's poor hospitality and counterfeit coins, Xihe was driven away again.

6. The disheartened Xi He ran to the nun's door and tried to stay away from the red dust. He accidentally lost his body during the debt collection process and was driven out by the nun.
7. Xihe, who was living on the street, encountered a colleague who was fired. The two walked together. Not long after the colleague who was suspected of theft broke out, Xihe returned to loneliness again.
8. Xihe, who is old and yellow, failed to sell himself on the street, but was invited to do "the old witch's negative teaching material, Xihe returned to the temple and fainted in anger.
9. Xi He thought that he had received a call from his son, who was already a lord. From then on, he lived in good life and escaped from the sea of misery. In the end, he was rejected by the nobles again because of his experience of being forced to be a prostitute, and he had to be a lonely nun.
As a beautiful and dignified woman, Xihe has struggled and worked hard, but in this cruel society, it is useless. The long shot of her mother chasing Baihe who wants to commit suicide all the way through the bamboo forest can be described as her struggling desperately. But he is trapped in a microcosm of life that cannot be freed from the bondage.
