Lonely if you have a heart

Nominated for the Un Certain Regard Award at Cannes, this film is about a topic that literary and artistic creators have always loved to discuss - loneliness. In the film, this loneliness is represented as hollow, transparent, fungible, combustible or non-combustible garbage.

Although exaggerated, it restores the original appearance of Japanese cities to a certain extent: people living under heavy pressure are empty and lonely, inflatable dolls, restaurant waiter Hideo, girls addicted to gluttony, middle-aged women resisting aging (What's the matter with feeling offended by himself), middle-aged men who eat raw eggs, and even Chunyi who has the quirk of blowing air for the doll heroine, without exception, are all trying to find a sense of existence in their own way, however, No one is irreplaceable. What is the true meaning of life? The director expressed some sporadic ideas through the poems read by the grandfather and the confession of the doll heroine, but unfortunately, the traces of this expression are too heavy and it is difficult to resonate.

The film as a whole presents a slightly weird sense of disobedience, and only Japan, a delicate country, can integrate bloody yellow violence with beauty and freshness. This kind of perverted uniqueness makes me even more curious about the director's inner world, how deep is the darkness hidden there, and the color oozes through the skin?

Doomsday girlfriend's soundtrack is truly invincible, Li Pingbin's picture is beautiful, Pei Doona's delicate face, unlike a human, has found a perfect home, and the unexpected drama at the end of the film amazes me, all of which add a lot to the film. But compared to Hirokazu Kore-eda's other works (not even to compare), "Air Doll" is a little more deliberate and not clever, and a little less deep, which is hard to hide the superficial fact.

"People with ice hands have a warm heart." - I accepted this contrived sentence. Next time someone asks why my hands are so cold, I finally have an answer instead of "maybe no one hurts."
