When I first saw the first half of the movie, I really thought the movie was boring.
First of all, there are too few comedy elements, the plot development is too bland and reasonable, the characters' reactions are normal and ordinary, and there is also a male third, and the performance traces are very obvious. Not what a proper comedy should look like.
Just when I was mocking myself for the bad laughs of Indian movies, I had the first small climax in the film.
In the film, the 102-year-old father Dutley is an old urchin with a psychological age of 26, while the 75-year-old son Babu is a cautious little old man with mild obsessive-compulsive disorder.
In order to challenge the world longevity record, the father decided to send the son who was so boring that it affected his mood into a nursing home. To stop the crazy behavior of the father, Babu had to complete a series of tasks assigned by his father.
The small climax I mentioned earlier refers to such a conflict, that Babu refused his father's third task - he did not want to cut the blanket that had accompanied him for 65 years.
Datley immediately arranged a fourth assignment: to spend a day exploring Mumbai.
Babu scans his life.
The joys and sorrows from childhood to adulthood are all installed in every corner of the city. Just one day. The son said on the river, "The deceased is like a man."
From here, the story gets exciting.
Datley helps Babu recall all the things he has experienced in the city, not to indulge in the past but to let go of the past. I realized this later.
Babu's son is not around, and his wife is separated from each other. While reminiscing about the past, Babu seems to be constantly comprehending the meaning of life.
The people around him left one by one, and all that was left were old things that were hard to give up.
Memories are the moonlight that cannot be grasped, and the palms will be dark when clenched.
Father Dutley appears to be sarcastic, mocking Babu. But for every task he gave, none of them did not help his son to recall the past and let go of the past.
People like to miss the old when they are old. The more you can't let go of old things, the more shackles you have.
And carefully holding these leftovers, if you want to survive the rest of your life, it is better to go to a nursing home for the elderly.
After letting go, Babu cut the blanket to pieces, and he realized that people don't get old, but what gets old is an increasingly boring heart.
And the most exciting conflict in the whole play, the most tearful plot, appeared so naturally.
The conflict started with a phone call from my son, who was far away in the United States, and he finally decided to come back to see his father who he hadn't seen in more than 20 years.
Dutley's face sank. He gave his 75-year-old son the last task - to drive him away. He just wanted to covet our family property.
Even so, the 75-year-old son still sternly refused. He felt that even if his son didn't care about him, it was the only happiness he was watching. The son wanted an inheritance, and he was willing to do so.
He scolded the 102-year-old father as "not old" and took him to court, but he did not expect that the "old immortal" had a tumor in his head.
At this time, the ones I had wondered before finally had the answer:
Why does a 102-year-old dad insist on sending his 75-year-old son to a nursing home?
After being rejected by his son, why let him do a series of unreasonable and even inhuman things?
——I really thought it was Dartley who was going to challenge the longevity record.
It's really hard to doubt that a character who was originally set to do something wrong did something wrong.
But the strong fatherly love here cannot be ignored.
It's too slow, but the father's love in the East is so slow.
The 102-year-old father told him the truth: all the transformation plans were his arrangements, because he was dying soon. The truth came out.
After reading it, my heart is sour and full of emotions. On the one hand, I hope that my parents can leave us to find new life, on the other hand, I really want to spend more time with them.
I ignited youth and will not grow old, and I hope that my beloved parents will not grow old either.
Make more phone calls with your parents.
