Two days ago, I watched an Indian movie "102 years old and still not old". At first I was reluctant to watch it, because Indian movies always sing and dance accidentally, and while I respected their culture, I couldn't help but feel... embarrassed. But the film review of a certain public account was so wonderful that I finally dug up the resources to read it. I think a good comedy movie can make the audience laugh and cry. The atmosphere of the movie is quite cheerful at the beginning, and as the plot progresses, you will think about the themes of aging, death and new life.
There are a few lines in the movie that really stood out to me. 75-year-old son Baloo cannot sleep without having to hug a blanket he has used for 65 years every night. One of the 102-year-old dad's requests for his son was to cut it. The father said: "The first sign of old age is to seek solace in the old. He has a soft spot for this blanket, and his mind is closed to the new. Once the blanket is gone, the new life is also Comes quietly, every night is different and brings a new dream." Old things seem to represent obsessions, obsessions that are unwilling to change. Living in a familiar environment, reminiscing about the past, and reluctant to look forward to tomorrow.
The second sentence is what the father said after asking his son to take a day trip to one of the attractions in Mumbai, the church. When the church bell rang, Baloo quietly walked into the church with tears in his eyes and sat silently on the pews, his thoughts returned to the past. He used to bring his son Almo here often because Almo likes to hear the church bells the most. However, Baloo spent all his retirement savings to send Almo to study abroad, help him start a family, get married and have children... However, Almo seems to have forgotten him. Almo never went back to India, even when Baloo's wife was suffering from Alzheimer's disease and had forgotten everyone in just a month, when Almo's name was still in her mouth before she died, Almo Neither came back. The 102-year-old father asked Baloo to come to church to let him know: "If my son grows up to be a jerk, forget him, just remember his childhood."
The third sentence is a 102-year-old dad's self-talk. He said: "I can't let his son beat my son." Almo is going back to China, the purpose is to divide the family property. Baloo waited for more than ten years, and even the death of his wife could not wait for Almo's return. Grandpa said on the phone that we are all getting old. If there are three long and two short points, there are some things that need to be explained. In less than two minutes of phone calls, Almo ordered the fastest flight back to India. Even though Baloo knew Almo's purpose, he was still humble begging and waiting for Almo's love and return. Just like before, begging for Almo's semi-annual phone call, begging for an extra photo of his grandson and daughter-in-law. Baloo even wants to break up with Datri in order to leave the property to Almo! In the end, Datri took an X-ray... It turned out that Datri had a brain tumor that was growing rapidly. Everything he did was just to let Baloo find his fresh self before he died, a self who could be optimistic and face life bravely. Baloo realized his old father's love for him. When Almo landed in India, he scolded him for being selfish and unworthy, and drove him back to the United States.
At the end of the film, the 102-year-old father left. The 75-year-old son is sitting by the sea, listening to his father's dying sound, smiling and making the tacit victory gesture between them...
Who can say that we can avoid aging and escape death? No matter how young the mind is, it is no match for the aging and pain of the body. However, death also doesn't seem so scary and tragic. Who does not only live a lifetime, live their own life well without leaving too many regrets, and can leave safely and happily. At least what I felt at the end of the film was not sadness, but new life and hope.
