The direction of the wind is nature and freedom

When we judge the Seediq Balai people as "pretentious" and "civilized", are we civilized or barbaric?

While shops, post offices, and schools enrich our material civilization, the spiritual civilization of faith, resistance, nature, and dignity is slowly declining, like two ends of the scale. We gradually learned to compromise, learned the rules, and learned to be stubborn. The blood and flesh in our bones slowly turned into streams, without the majestic momentum of the big river and the sea.

Civilization is scary sometimes. We strive to make ourselves a "civilized person" and a "literate person", as if this represents advanced, self-cultivation, and knowledge, but we have lost the most precious thing, blood and resistance. The end of reason is another kind of loss and loss.

While being swept forward by modern civilization, I hope we can retain some innocence and beauty, blood and resistance. This is what we were born for and what makes us different.

A tribute to Seediq Bale, and to ourselves.

  • Mona Rudao: Dakis, when you die, are you entering a Japanese shrine, or the heavenly home of our ancestors? Are you Dakis or Hanaoka Ichiro?

  • Ichiro Hanaoka aka Dakis Nomin: [Asking Jiro/Dakis Nawi before performing seppuku] Jiro, are we subjects of Japan's Mikado... , or the descendants of the Seediq ancestors?

Jiro Hanaoka aka Dakis Nawi: Do it. Cut it up and end your conflicts right here and now. We don't have to go anywhere once we're dead. Let's both be free wandering spirits.
