Duration: 132 minutes Bale is an exception, and I watched it again this year.
Of the movies I watched in 2012, I only remember two, Turning the Mountain and Seediq Bale. After I wrote about Turning the Mountain, I always wanted to write this one, but I didn't write it because I felt different from any other film. For good-looking movies, I am especially willing to recommend them to others, but this one is the only one that I am reluctant to do. It's because I'm afraid that others won't see it's goodness, so I don't want to listen to it when I say it. It's better to know it myself.
Recently, I saw some interviews about the tattooed women of the Dulong ethnic group in Yunnan on TV, and I thought of some characters and pictures in this movie. Some of them can’t be hidden, and they will come to mind from time to time, so this movie will be the same sooner or later. to share.
1 The movie
Seediq is a Taiwanese Seediq, • Bale means "real", and the name of the movie can be interpreted as "real Seediq people". The full version of the movie is divided into two parts, the sun flag and the rainbow bridge. It takes more than four hours in total. If you want to watch it, please make sure to take so much time out. Perhaps alone, watch it quietly and undisturbed.
I still remember when I watched it for the first time, I couldn't help myself, and it wasn't a sad cry, it wasn't a moved cry, it was just uncontrollable snot and tears, and I stayed alone for a long time and calmed down.
2 Primitive bloodliness
We look at the sun flag (upper) from the perspective of modern civilization. The Seediq people's way of guarding their territories and hunting grounds is cruel. Cutting off the heads of the enemies is a sign of their growth. The head is both for display and for their tribe's culture and beliefs. These are not closer to animal nature, where land is king.
The soul character of the movie, Mona Ludao, showed his youthful appearance, such as the first time he was born, and carved a totem symbolizing growth, such as his arrogance and aggressiveness, like us who have been brainwashed by modern civilization. People can't really understand them. It is something in the blood, which is passed down from generation to generation by tribes. It is the most direct desire for survival, the desire to be strong, and the desire to become a hero. It is the most primitive blood. It is also because of this bloody nature that the subsequent "Wushe Incident" broke out.
Death is also, not passive death, but active sacrifice. Tribal women choose to commit suicide collectively for the sake of men and children, in order to no longer be humiliated. This kind of bloody nature has nothing to do with men or women, it is just a display of instinct.
3 conflict
Even between tribes, there has always been conflict, they killed each other for their own hunting grounds and for the survival of their clansmen. Not to mention that after Japan colonized Taiwan, it wanted to civilize and transform these "shengfans". Decades later, even the "shengfans" on the surface have been gradually "civilized" and are no longer barbaric aborigines. They have built schools, hospitals, post offices and other civilized facilities for them. The Seediq also do not have to hunt for basic living, and the totems on the young people's faces are almost invisible. However, harmony on the surface does not mean that conflict does not exist. The Japanese have a high sense of superiority and look down on these backward and uncivilized students. "When two completely different civilizations meet, the final outcome is bound to be war, which has nothing to do with justice and justice." In the Rainbow Bridge (lower part), the inner contradictions of the tribal leader Mona Ludao are displayed and portrayed extremely wonderfully. For the senior leaders of the tribe, they enjoy the highest call, but they are in the protection of tribal culture, management of tribes and hunting grounds guarded by generations. However, they are often powerless. The clansmen chop down trees instead of grass or hunting. The original spirit has gradually declined, a silent and unstoppable decline. Is the inheritance of tribal culture going to be destroyed in the hands of Mo Na. The once unruly and unruly, after decades of colonization, were deeply buried, leaving pain and contradictions in Mo Na's heart. There are several descriptions of this aspect in the movie. Obviously, he is extremely dissatisfied, but he still has to suppress himself and maintain the surface peace. The ridicule, injustice, and inhuman treatment, the sharply deepening contradiction, and the gradual decline and demise of the tribe are the real reasons for the outbreak of the conflict. No matter what the outcome of the "Wushe Incident" is, such a war will happen one day, no The Wushe incident will also be a certain club incident.
Do we also need to reflect on whether the so-called modernization, the so-called civilization, is good and represents a kind of progress? Any kind of progressive civilization, with a "for you" hat, rapes our minds. We are also enslaved by civilization, expounding the morality of fairness, justice and peace, and rejecting primitive and conservative ideas. Compared with the Cultural Revolution, the current method is more sophisticated and invisible.
4 The music
director spends a lot of effort on the movie, which can be seen from the soundtrack of the movie. It is a great work alone, and it is more popular with the movie scene. This is really impossible to say, I feel like I can't express myself.
When the Japanese army attacked the village, when the man cut off the head of the enemy, when the mother and wife hanged themselves, when the child died with the Japanese army, when the cherry blossoms were flying all over the sky, a woman sang such a folk song leisurely, more than heartache...
O my children I know
laqi mu bale wa, mkela ku
in those passionate days
ali knsselo tqqaras ta ciida
you learn a song
wada namu smluhe kingal uyas sing
for the ancestors who are about to be forgotten
muuyas uyas utux rudan ta uxe beyo scuhungi
every note hugs the ancestral spirit
tightly meemux utux rudan ta knkingal qene uyas
your throbbing body dances to the ancestral spirit
hei namu kmeeki quri utux rudan mlgelu
the dignity of your soul is like lightning in a
dense cloud mntena ledax pceka pabu snparu qcahun namu
… …………
To achieve your dreams, you need to swallow a lot of regrets
mqita su dnungusan we asi ka knuhawan
children, what happened to you?
laqi mu wa, ga namu hmuwa da ?
My children, what is the matter with you?
laqi mu bale wa, ga namu bale hmuwa da ?
If your civilization is to make us bow down, then I will show you savage pride - Seediq Bale
