★★★☆ (Four stars for full marks) After everything is over, the dust settles, and the blood dries up, we can sort out the plot of "Angel Heart" and find that it is actually quite simple. But there was no such feeling at the time. It has a nightmare-like logic that is unpredictable. In this nightmare, everything is not coordinated and everything seems unavoidable.
This movie is played by Mickey Locke as Harry Angel (note: "Angel" and "Angel" are the same in English), a sloppy private detective who looks like Sam S. Peder (note: the protagonist of "The Maltese Eagle" is also a private investigator) donated to work in the office of charity. He received a call to visit a cult in Harlem, and there was a strange man who wanted to talk to him. This man is named Louis Sever (Robert De Niro), and he wants Angel to help him find a missing person. Angel took over the case for five thousand dollars and traced traces full of old clues and fresh corpses.
This sounds like most other private detective movies, and to some extent, it does. But there are a few things that make it unique: the sly sense of humor, the excellent acting and director, and the supernatural phenomenon that Harry Angell suddenly fell into when he discovered the terrible truth of this investigation.
The film is directed by Alan Parker, who vowed to get involved in all types of movies. After "Angel Heart", he can cross out two categories from the list: private detective movies and supernatural horror movies. Parker is always energetic when making movies, as if he has been deeply involved, regardless of other people's feelings.
He likes things that might be called over-style by the faint-hearted, which also caused him trouble in the classification system, because of the scene between Locke and Lisa Bonnet. Lisa plays a Louisiana girl who holds the secrets of the past. During a storm, they met in a leaky hotel room, and when they turned over the clouds and rain, the raindrops from the ceiling turned into blood. In the context of this movie, blood has an important meaning, although the scene had to be cut to meet the R-rated standard. (Note: If you don't delete it, it will be classified as X-level, but the current Blu-ray version retains this paragraph)
This scene is consistent with the whole movie, sexy and depraved. De Niro's character sets the tone for the movie through his sharp pointed nails and elegant black suit. De Niro must have enjoyed it when he was preparing for this role: he used his neatly trimmed black beard, big back head, lighting and makeup skills to make himself look exactly like his favorite director Martin Scorsese. Considering the true identity of this character, this is really a naughty tribute.
Locke occupies the center of the movie, like an unmade bed. Except for Gérard Depardieu in France, no other actor would take the role of sloppy lazy people as a profession. He doesn't seem to shave, shower, hangover, and desperate. This is just the beginning of the movie, before things start to go wrong. In the end, his nerves were already tense to cry for help.
His long journey in "Heart of Angels" took him from New York to Algiers, Louisiana. This is a small town opposite New Orleans. It makes Bourbon Street (note: a famous piece in New Orleans The luxurious life of Lao Cai looks like Disneyland. A grumpy old blues player persuaded him to go home. But he didn't listen, so he was deeply involved in the river area, where he spied the voodoo rituals.
If you have seen Bonet in "The Cosby Family", you can't imagine her indulgent sexual behavior when she plays this cult priestess. She may be correct to regard this controversial role as her first appearance in the film; this role is very different from the role of "Cosby", which makes her a seemingly credible film actress.
Once we figure out the final truth of the movie, it will become weird. This kind of movie will let you replay the plot in your mind after you leave the movie theater, and will let you reinterpret the previous scene based on the shocking truth at the end. "Angel Heart" is a thriller and horror film, but most importantly, it is an energetic style exercise, and Parker and his actors are happy to take it to the extreme.
