It is said that the film was banned for "beautifying the Japanese invaders". But I don't think the film is to beautify or vilify the invaders at all. Its main purpose is to reveal the kindness of the Chinese people, but there are many bad roots, such as scattered sand, grass on the wall and so on. It ended up being a tragedy.
Shot in black and white from start to finish, symbolizing that era and the inner world of people in that era. The bloody red doesn't appear until the very end, reminding viewers how pathetic this is.
The idea is good, but the pictures are deliberately shabby, and people who like gorgeous pictures will be disappointed.
