In today’s world, maintaining the so-called political correctness in the environment is too important
Otherwise, the drool will be submerged by accidental verbal criticism
A Korean version and a US version of the old boy have caused a lot of controversy, especially the fans who deeply agree with the original version. Whether it is on Chinese and foreign websites, they almost hate the US version.
However, from my personal feeling, the American version of the old boy is not so unbearable at all, so I will discuss it with a more objective attitude. From a personal point of view, the American version of the old boy has basically copied and made some improvements over the original. I think these changes have brought good results, and they are not just made up.
Another: It can be noticed that most of the original fans are highly recognized based on the technical aspects of filming, such as photography skills, use of scene details, soundtrack, atmosphere creation, etc.; for more professional fans To say that I pay more attention to these perspectives also shows that I have a high level of appreciation. This is undeniable. But what I'm discussing here is more about the general viewing angle, and I pay more attention to the story structure, the rationality of the plot, and the viewability of the film.
(1) The basic revenge framework is more equal
The overall structure of the revenge story is: In the end, the BOSS was smashed by the actor due to the incest scandal many years ago and spread out. Through careful calculation for many years, he was first imprisoned for a long time, and then released and manipulated to guide the actor to revenge his close relatives for incest.
The difference between the Korean version and the US version is that the Korean version is broken by the final BOSS’s brother and sister incest; the US version is the final BOSS’s father’s incest behavior towards him and his sister.
From the logic of reciprocal revenge, the Korean version of revenge is somewhat unreasonable. Although the same is incest, the siblings are the same generation, and the father and daughter are the elders versus the juniors. The difference is very big. It may be said: In the end, the BOSS is evil, or he has no choice. Who makes the male protagonist’s female direct relatives have only one daughter? Well, of course this is possible. But since it's a screenwriter, considering this, does the change in the US version make the logical rationality of revenge easier to understand?
(2) Abandonment of hypnotism
To support the development of the final boss revenge plan, the key is to arrange for the actor to meet his daughter and have an intimate relationship.
In the Korean version, in the top floor apartment of the final BOSS at the end of the film, he himself joked about deconstructing the plan and said, but how do you make two people fall in love? Then he moved out the mysterious female hypnotist. It even seemed to be too deliberate and long-winded (for fear that the audience might not be convinced) to talk about the vital role of hypnosis in the whole plan. For example, as soon as the male protagonist goes out, he will go straight to the restaurant where his daughter works as he instilled when he was hypnotized; and the daughter will also take the initiative to put his hand on his father’s hand according to the instructions he received when he was hypnotized. Complete the first intimate contact, and then step by step to become inseparable. In the end, the BOSS explained to the actor with a smile on his face, meaning that all of your actions are in my plan.
As a general audience, it is difficult for me to convince me when I see this plot. The effect of hypnosis has been exaggerated to a myth. This is not hypnosis. It is a preset action program for the computer control panel of the robot. Is the role of hypnosis such a "scalpel" precise?
The US version abandoned this approach. Instead, the explanation for how the actor and daughter fell into the trap is:
After being released, the male protagonist immediately noticed the iconic woman with an umbrella, which is exactly the same image that appeared on the night he was arrested, and then deliberately guided by the woman, and finally plugged the umbrella to a rescuer in line. Let the protagonist follow all the way and finally get exactly to the scene where his daughter is working. And because I was too excited to look for the umbrella to rush over, leading to misunderstandings and certain quarrels, it also naturally alarmed the daughter who was in charge of the scene and paid attention to the male protagonist. Isn't this arrangement much more reasonable than the hypnotic implant instruction?
The heroine has been brought up under the arrangement of the final BOSS. The arrangement is an environment lacking paternal love, which makes the heroine's psychological defense especially vulnerable when facing older men since she was a child. And through the heroine's social work colleagues to talk to her, she has been hurt repeatedly because of being too emotional to help men who have suffered various traumas. The characteristics and defects of this character are slowly formed and solidified through long-term environmental influence. Therefore, when encountering a male protagonist that meets two major conditions: pure men, older men + subjects who have been traumatized, they are easily trapped and unable to extricate themselves. Isn't this arrangement much more reasonable than a hypnotic implant?
(3) Foreshadowing the feelings of father and daughter
In the Korean version, it is not clearly stated whether the actor was divorced before disappearing. It is likely that he still lives with his family, but likes to fool around and cause trouble. On the night of his daughter's birthday, he still wanted to go back to celebrate. It can be seen that the feelings towards her daughter should actually be good. But while in captivity, he learned that his wife had been killed and his daughter was missing. He did not have any special reaction. Instead, he recounted the list of offenses in the first half of his life and the details of his crimes. After fifteen years, he was released and easily obtained her daughter's contact information, but this matter never happened. This clue is equivalent to being thrown away directly. As the only relative in the world, the daughter has experienced such a tragic change that year, the father disappeared and the mother died tragically, shouldn't it be the father who most worried about and hoped to be reunited with his daughter as soon as possible? Of course, I can understand the hatred in my heart, and I am eager to get revenge (of course, there is also the precise instruction of the magical hypnotic command), but even the daughter is still alive, is it safe, is it? Life is good, and they are completely ignored, and there is no call. Is this logical? In other words, if the father-daughter relationship has faded to such an extent that this kind of boiled water is inferior to this kind of boiled water, and then after knowing that he is having a relationship with his own daughter, how can it be painful to such a degree, or even crazy enough to cut one's own hands? Tongue? ? What's the excitement?
The handling of the US version is very different. The first explanation was that the male protagonist was quite a bastard. After the divorce, his financial resources were unstable and he didn't even remember to pay the alimony. Moreover, his ex-wife strongly requested him to attend his daughter's third birthday party, and he categorically refused on the excuse of what he could remember at the age of three. But in the desperate last chance to make money (the boss also said clearly, if you can’t do it alone, you’ll get out of it) because of another rotten personality, self-sufficiency to sexually harass the wife of the most important client, and lost it. Only then did I think of family affection and bought a rubber duck as a gift in Chinatown. But then he was arrested and imprisoned for twenty years.
After failing to commit suicide and falling into complete despair, it was also learned through TV news that the wicked had planted, framed and killed his ex-wife, and his daughter was alone. At this time, all thoughts were lost, and I realized that I only lived for the reason of family affection. Then I wrote a letter to confess my love for my daughter, and hope that one day I can make up for my mistakes.
After his release, he learned that the boss ultimately controlled his daughter, so he was not only to avenge his torment, but also to find his own daughter, ensure her safety, and be able to finally reunite. So that in the end the truth was cruelly revealed, and the only thought that had been supporting him to live was destroyed with no room for recovery. At that moment, his painful cry and emotional breakdown turned to the final BOSS, who hated him deeply, letting go of everything and begging to let it go. Isn't the explosion of this kind of emotion more in line with normal logic?
(4) Girls and women
One of the most intuitive differences: The original version arranged for the father to disappear on the birthday of the infant daughter and be released after 15 years of detention; in the US version, the father disappeared on the night of the three-year-old daughter's birthday and released after 20 years of detention.
Fifteen to twenty. It may not be a particularly noticeable difference. For the audience who didn't notice it, that is, oh, it was really closed for a long time. Then set aside.
But there is a big difference.
Especially in the most important highlight, as the boss finally deliberately planned, when an unavoidable father-daughter incest really happened, the Korean version of the details: my daughter said, it hurts, but I am willing to bear it for you. It is conceivable that the daughter was still a virgin at the time. In the US version, the arithmetic is also very simple: 3+20=23. It was obviously not the first time when Scarlet Witch (er) and Thanos (dad) were passionate. This has already been hinted somewhat in the conversation between the male volunteer colleague and her. The Scarlet Daughter has had an unsuccessful relationship experience.
So the question is, why are they arranged in this way.
The Korean version's settings are relatively vague, but there is no doubt that the daughter was in her infancy at that time. The way of coaxing and teasing on the phone can be heard. Adding fifteen years, there is a high probability that it will be worth twenty or even less than a point. That is: girl, and she's a big girl.
The numbers in the US version are very clear. I have just passed the age of 23 and have had emotional experiences. In the United States, the age at which XING occurs is very sensitive. So it is conceivable that it was intentional here to extend the imprisonment time as much as possible, so that the age of Crimson Daughter fell in an absolutely safe range.
Moreover, the US version also confessed that you have already had emotional experience. As long as you like it, have a good impression, and the passion bursts out of the fire, it is more logical. The original version is especially about Asian culture, and it is the first time in life, and the girl herself works in a restaurant and is a well-known chef profession, not a fringe person on the road. You should always be a little cautious about how and how much your first time should happen. But the film is almost the first time to touch your hands, take the unfamiliar uncle home the first time instead of sending it to the hospital, the first time reminds the uncle that the bathroom cannot be locked, and the first time to comfort him after the uncle overlord fails to bow. It will definitely be for you. Is it really so casual? Is it true that love at first sight is 100% sure? Still looking back one sentence: Thank you for the all-purpose hole-filling artifact-female hypnotist? ? If you love you, love, or not love. What many viewers feel may be the two words "stubborn".
(5) The handling of the ending is more in line with human relations
The handling of the original ending may be a huge controversy for many people. After experiencing such an unbearable plot, especially as a real dad, it happened with the real daughter who was still a girl. In the end, he could still face his own daughter and pretend to continue to fall in love? ? ? At this time, the invincible female hypnotist of the universe came to shine again, did a soul-cutting technique, and she said it in an unusually meticulous manner, lest the audience disagree: listen well, after the clear cut of this hypnotist, remember all the bad things. Half of the souls turned their heads and left, and have disappeared since then. Let's assume that this has never happened! Then come and come, come here, the other half of the soul who has no bad memories but good memories, you are icy and clean, I especially certify that you can have a free love with your own daughter (SORRY when I didn’t say these three words). Let go and love!
Seeing this kind of treatment, it is not difficult to understand why a lot of comments have raised serious questions about the values of the original film.
The US version has changed the ending considerably. Dad Mie knows that a big mistake has been made, no matter how innocent he is, how much he is framed by the final boss to make mistakes unknowingly. But now that it has happened, the love of a father for his daughter in his heart cannot be shaken as the most fundamental emotion of human nature, even if he has to pay the price of his life. In comparison, the so-called emotional sparks that two people rub together in a short time of extreme tension and pressure until the final physical relationship are true love between men and women? Or it's just a moment of passion that the final BOSS deliberately put the two people in a very special environment, forcibly concocted. So there is no room for comparison between the two. Fatherly love kills all distracting thoughts in seconds. So he made a decision to let himself fall into the abyss of loneliness and pain again, with his own disappearance forever, so that his biological daughter can leave the past, re-enter the path of life, live the life of his choice, and meet a worthy lover. Continue well. And he himself, through this sacrifice, as long as he knows that his daughter is safe and sound, the rest of his life is also worry-free (the creator also gave a bunch of diamonds intimately, a bit too hard), which is undoubtedly equivalent to obtaining the greatest redemption in life, and then lonely What a fear in a lifetime.
Isn't this kind of ending treatment more in line with the feelings and ethics of normal people?
So overall, the ending of the Korean version is on the surface a good ending. After all, the hero and the heroine are together, but everyone should know it well. The subtext is to carry the incest to the end. The ending of the US version is on the surface a bad ending that is painful and lasts a lifetime. Dad Mie and Scarlet Daughter are separated forever. But isn't this the best choice a father can make in that situation? In order to protect her daughter to the utmost extent and prevent her from being tortured by the past, have an ordinary life that may be happy, let herself carry all these unbearable memories, and walk through her life alone, to a certain extent. That said, it was the greatest comfort.
The above is just a modification of the original version from some of the more obvious US versions that I have observed, which I personally think is more reasonable.
So to say the least, the US version is not a worthless version.
The original version is of course very valuable, and it is a masterpiece with distinctive features from a professional perspective.
Appreciated from different angles, both films have their own points worthy of being affirmed.
