The greater the energy, the greater the responsibility

When commenting on a movie, from my personal point of view, I tend to start from what I think is more important: whether this work tells a good story through audio and video. From this perspective, Spielberg's films are all quite successful. But if, according to Bazin, the movie is about the art of dreams, then at least this dream should have two characteristics: the experience based on daily life, and the deviation and sublimation of this experience. Judging from an artistic point of view, his work is quite unqualified. Most movies on the market can complete half or half of them, and only excellent movies can have both. Although Spielberg often chooses surreal or extremely dramatic themes, his style has always been: the story is out of daily life, but the values are trying to move closer to the mainstream. This is a flattery to the market that is not easy to detect. This kind of compromising thought that fantasy must return to reality has led to his films being greatly recognized in business, but they are often greatly devalued in terms of artistic value.

The main problem with this movie is that it lacks creativity and imagination. It may be surprising to say that there are a lot of symbols and iconic characters in the movies, which involve a lot of popular culture, especially video game culture. However, this was originally a characteristic of the original work. As a Chinese second net essay for otaku, the original writing is very natural. However, the director only visualized these words without any extra effort. This shows the gap in imagination between him and Lucas. With so many elements rationalized, the real world and virtual world in the movie are so riddled with defects and extremely superficial.

Taking real life as an example, his presentation of the difference between the rich and the poor is not as good as New Delhi in India or Rio de Janeiro in Brazil in real life. There is neither a huge visual contrast, nor a dramatic presentation of the opposition between the rich and the poor or the leap. His performance of the slums is a cartoon-like stacked scaffolding and containers. Not to mention the Kowloon Walled City, it is better to build a former Soviet-style tube building to express the boring and hopeless life of life. The management of IOI and the executive department and even the labor center are placed in the same building. The employees do not have the most basic access management, let alone the VR era.

The part about VR is even more ridiculous and untenable. At the beginning, the protagonist’s diaosi equipment needed a universal disk to simulate traveling. No matter how this device simulates driving, we can see that the big boss uses a pod cabin. , This is actually more reasonable and the cost may not be high, because it can simulate various scenarios and interactions. However, his Liuzitou gang is still using backpacks, and the people all over the street simply let themselves go on the street and run around. I think it is a late-night stupid show in the United States.

Since the game world is a virtual scene, there is no need to follow logic. Spielberg simply runs like a crowd wearing blindfolds, mixing all the scenes, all the characters, and all the games to make a hodgepodge. Now, there is no planning of zoning, nor fusion of styles. Originally a multiplayer RPG, must add first-person shooting, racing, real-time strategy, and no DMZ?

I don't think Spielberg lacks the intelligence to do these preparations and design work. But he obviously lacks the passion, motivation and relevant knowledge to do these tasks well, and he does not plan to spend his budget on these areas. I think he should spend most of his budget and energy on obtaining IP licenses. If there are so many problems that can be picked out at the operational level, this film is destined to be just a work that has to be smashed if you don't fool around.

However, these are not the biggest problems. Like most of Spielberg's works, this film lacks a thoughtful and complete value. The creator of Oasis thinks about the relationship between reality and the game extremely naively and ridiculously, and the protagonist is completely lacking in motivation, lack of transformation, lack of growth, and only appearing in a scene. In fact, think about it carefully, Tom Hanks in the happiness terminal pursues family and love, Tom Hanks in the rescue of Tom Hanks pursues humanitarianism, and Indiana Jones pursues a kind of complete justice. In a word, the character is extremely empty and lacks the meaning of being a human being. It only exists as a kind of preaching value of entertainment symbols. These, we can clearly see that Spielberg himself lacks the ability or interest to think deeply, but is committed to the streamlining of mainstream commercial films.

Originally, adults can understand that the so-called more than one hundred easter eggs means that this film is all tribute and nostalgia, in other words plagiarism and collage. Collage, as an art form carried forward by Andy Howell, has been outdated for 60 years, and only the official account is still in use today. But it’s pretty good, isn’t it? However, there is an Easter egg in the film that really disgusts me. When the protagonist sat in the pod cabin of the big boss, flipping through the big boss's browsing records, he saw that he was learning male Kegel exercises. This vulgar, stupid, and indecent suggestion fully and accurately implies the vulgarity and viciousness of the otaku, or what Spielberg is trying to cater to, what kind of otaku is in his mind.

Finally, from the perspective of the storyline, this film requires mechanical descent to the extent that the bull's head is wrong and the horse's mouth is not as good as the sewing machine band. It is not a story at all. Generally speaking, the reality of the popularity of this kind of film is that the public is giving up thinking and embracing the reality of brainwashing. What kind of appetite the audience will have, what kind of disgusting work will be produced. I have no objection to movies like you enjoy, but I am really disgusted that some people with no thinking ability call it madly that this represents their dreams and that they are recognized and accepted. Wake up, in the Glory of Kings, with a set of staff and a game programmer with an annual salary of tens of millions, is it still niche and non-mainstream to play games? How much do you have to rely on the cartoons you watched many years ago and the game consoles you have played to find your superiority?

In essence, Spielberg is just a commercial film director, and he has tried to create some great works, such as Schindler's List, Munich and Kidnapping. Now it seems that the subject matter and script determine his height and vision. He himself lacks the ability and talent to extract art from life.

Wade: With his guidance, our second move was to ban any loyalty centers from accessing the OASIS. IOI had no choice. They shut 'em all down. The third thing we did wasn't as popular. We closed the OASIS on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I know it sounds like a weird move, but, people need to spend more time in the real world. 'Cause, like Halliday said, reality, is the only thing. That's real.
