"Which is more important

to satisfy a thousand desires

or to overcome one?"

"The Samsara", a film directed by an Indian-French man, whose Chinese name translates to "Lust, Caution", is inexplicable. Actually, Samsara means reincarnation.

The young monk Dashi, after three years, three months and three days of isolated retreat, was appreciated by the esteemed Living Buddha Wimpley, and his monk career seemed promising. But when he was still young, there were still many doubts in his heart. When he saw the crying little boy sent by his father to the monastery to be ordained, when he saw the mother breastfeeding the child during the harvest festival, when he saw When the young and beautiful girl Pama passed by, he was slightly dazed, and his inner desire for worldly life was ignited little by little.

Dashi continued to struggle in his heart, and after a lot of hard work to overcome it, he said to his master Apu Lama in front of the golden statue of Sakyamuni: "He lived in the world until he was 29 years old, and I, from five years old, lived in the world. Since I was young, I have been living the life of a Buddha. Why? How do we know that his enlightenment was not directly influenced by secular conditions? Apu, what about the freedom that purification will bring? The satisfaction that abstinence will bring? He is also called People in the world must not blindly believe in him, but must understand from their own standpoint. Some things must be thrown away before they can be learned, and some things must be possessed before they can be discarded."

Dashi finally left the temple in the middle of the dark night and left the monkhood. Pao returned to the world, and he married Pama and had a son. He farms, sells grain, commits adultery, and fights. He doesn't look like a person who has been edified and educated by Buddhism for more than ten years. In his eyes, all people, things, emotions, and love gradually become so real and illusory.

There is a scene in the movie where Palma puts a branch into the water and asks the children - where does it end? They kept chasing the branch in the water, guessing its end, until they were exhausted and gave up. Maybe it doesn't matter where the end is, what matters is what it brings to you and what you leave to others when it passes.

Dashi's master, Apu Lama, wrote to Dashi before his death: "I know that the task is over, so I will enter reincarnation, and I know that we will meet in the next life. Maybe you will be able to tell me when the time comes. , which is more important, to satisfy a thousand desires, or to overcome one?"

Dashi, who gradually felt empty in the world, decided to redo himself as a monk. Another night left without saying goodbye.

As he was about to reach the monastery, his wife Pama appeared in front of him, "Yalunda, do you know the name? Prince Gautama Siddhartha, Sakyamuni, Buddha, everyone knows this. Name, but what about Yalunda? Yalunda married Siddhartha and she loved him very much. One night, Siddhartha left while she and her son were asleep, so that he could realize the Tao and become a Buddha. He didn't even say goodbye. He left. Long before Siddhartha knew about the suffering of the world and had compassion for the sick and the weak, Yalundala did it. How did he know that it wasn't her fault that he realized the Tao? How do we know that after Siddhartha left, she didn't become angry? became lonely and resentful? Who ever thought of her?... Dashi, if your heart for the Dharma is as good as your love and passion for me, you must If you can become a Buddha in your body, you will become a Buddha in the world."

When Da Shi burst into tears, "Pama, forgive me, I'll go back with you, to my destination."

In a blink of an eye, Pama disappeared with the wind.

What is real? What is phantom? Could it be that all these people, things, and things are just his dreams?

Dash suddenly burst into tears, wailing and rolling on the ground in despair.

- "How can a drop of water not dry up?"

- "Let it flow into the sea."

This is a sentence echoed before and after the film, but, I am confused - where is the sea? I used to think that the best state of life is to follow your heart. But I slowly discovered that I, who live by this principle, still can't really be happy. Suddenly I thought of one thing. Many people are tired of eating things, but I have never eaten them. I remember when I was young, my mother always behaved abnormally. The more I liked to eat, the less she gave me to eat. She said, in this way, I will love to eat for the rest of my life, and I will never get tired of it. I don't really understand this thinking until now. Perhaps only with proper satisfaction and restraint, people can come out of the realm of balance. The mastery of this balance requires wisdom.

After one desire is satisfied, there will be ten, one hundred, one thousand, ten thousand desires, which are endless. Perhaps only after getting rid of selfish desires and altruistic desires can we truly be liberated.
